Trouble with local .mpg videos

I've been having trouble when downloading local .mpg amvs. I either get audio and no video, or vise versa. Am I the only one having this problem? What's the deal?

None that I am aware of.

It's generally all of them. The only .mpg video that loaded fine for me was Failed Experiments in Video Editing.

well every computer has certain codecs already installed.
you should be able to play mpg files with the basic codecs that windows has.

I'm betting that you're either missing codecs, or you might have a codec conflict (occurs when 2 codecs try to decode the same video/audio...various side effects may happen).

did you read any of the guides on the site and download anything from them?

The only thing I downloaded from the site was the AMVAPP file, so that I had the necessary freeware to make my own videos. This included XviD and ffdshow (Which I had problems with before when making my own video).
