Woot, Nanoha StrikerS, Episode 1!
Plot-wise there's not much to spoiler though the beginning did show a flashback of Nanoha saving Subaru from a burning airport. The episode pretty much showcases what abilites the new mages Subaru and Tiana are capable of. At the moment, Subaru's attacks consists of physical, close-ranged attacks from her gauntlet and her rollerblades. Her special attack commands are follows (hehe, I making it sound like it's from a RPG game
):
- Revolver Shoot - Uses 1x Cartridge: Long-range attack - energy attack ball
- Break Road - Support - Creates magical-based path to travel on
- Divine Buster - Uses 2x Cartridges: Variation of Nanoha's attack but less concentrated
Tiana uses a pistol that uses cartridges for long-range attacks. Her pistol can also be used as a grappling hook in order to swing to high-places. Her special attacks consist of (though only attack were actually named):
- Crossfire Shoot - Long-range attack - energy attack - can hit more than one targets
- has the ability to cloak
- has the ability to make shadow clones of herself (Naruto, eat your heart out
)
The OP and ED songs are both actually good for once. And this mysterious girl in the OP reminds me of Rider from Fate/stay night only in chibi form!
This series is going to be fun! It's just amazing how this magical girl series has evolved in the past seasons.

So far, I like Teana's abilities. Invisibility, duplication/illusion, etc. Although I'm not that jazzed about her using a pistol (and later, 2 pistols), which gives me a FFX-2 feel.
Subaru's close combat techniques are a nice change of pace, in contrast to the (primarily) long-range attacks of Nanoha. But I could do without the roller skates.
I also miss the Intelligent/Armed Device's responses. Supposedly, Subaru uses both Intelligent (skates) and Armed (glove) Devices which makes the omission more prominent. Unless her devices are non-standard, like Teana's pistol which seems to use cartridges like the Belka Armed Devices (and later, the Mid-Childa Devices of Nanoha and Fate) do.
One of these days, someone will have to make a Nanoha Technique Beat. Heck, a bunch of A's episodes and this first StrikerS episode provide a great setup for it.
