So...by this logic, we also need a hentai rape AMV set to 'Singing In the Rain?' It's been done in a movie!

That's not funny. Anyway, I haven't seen "Platoon", but the scene in "Top Gun" that plays "Dock of the Bay", there's no battle going on. Maverick is over at that girl's house (I think her name's Charley, haven't seen TG in a while).

It's really not much different from what you're suggesting...

Two movies doesn't say pattern, it says coincidence.

Especially if it's just kind of playing in the background...it's not like, say 'The End' by The Doors being used in Apocalypse Now, where the lyrics actually wind up working given how the movie plays out.
The directors just picked a song and went with it...to the best of my knowledge, it's not like there's any specific relevance to it...

Hell...this is like suggesting we need, say, an AMV of 'Now and Then, Here and There' or '08th MS Team' set to the Mickey Mouse Club theme, since they sang it at the end of Full Metal Jacket.
