Positive Site Feedback

Post by ReligionX » Fri Jun 30, 2006 6:31 pm

I don't know if the site has gone under EXTREME overhauling, but the Recommended Searching has been fantastic. I think it has to do with me downloading more videos to calculate better into the star reccommendations. Either way, in 15 downloads so far, I haven't come across a video I don't like.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

The only problem I have is that I can't find new videos this way. I want to find new AMVs because I know that there are a lot of good ones out there... somewhere. I guess I'll just have to hack through 10,000 or so AMVs to get to the new ones. Oh, darn.

The search for New Videos comes up with mostly videos that are not available for download. I think there should be a way to search for new videos that are available for download. It looks like there might be a way to do it with the Super Search, but it doesn't seem like the Super Search was intentionally made for this function.

The super search can do many things. With the right combinations it will give you what you want.

The reason you're getting older videos in the reccomendation pages is that those have the most clear ratings to compare to the ratings you give out. The system seems to treat new videos with lots of high ratings as knee-jerk fanboy/girl reactions that need to prove themselves a bit first before being recognised as "good."

Wow, you know what? That's brilliant! I thought that, "New Downloads," meant, "most recently downloaded," as a way to see what other people are downloading. I never bothered to check that out. This is EXACTLY what I am looking for. Thank you very much.

If I could make a suggestion about this then. Perhaps change the name of the link from "New Downloads," to, "New Downloadable AMVs," or to, "Newly Uploaded AMVs."

And even make a new button for "Videos Uploaded Long Ago With Very Few Hits." I understand that there's not really a market for videos in the first place if they're not getting hits... but how am I ever going to find them? Even the not-so-good videos generally have something that you can learn from, ie 'things not to do, and why.'

A couple of things you can try:
- The Most Underrated list. It's the "50 most downloaded videos with the fewest opinions left for them".
- The Top All-Time Star Scale. Click on "Maximum Stars: 10" or whatever, and you'll see videos that haven't been downloaded (well, starred) very much.

Ah! I have checked out the most underrated videos section. That's very close to, but not exactly what I am looking for.

And the Maximum Stars option seems to work exactly how I was hoping it was going to work. Though, I would have never thought to look there. Yet, I'm pretty sure that there aren't as many people looking for the highest rated videos with the fewest downloads. This is good. This is very good. More people should look here, I think. Unless they already do.

"The Bayesian Curve" still confuses me, but I've come to accept the fact that I will never understand it.

Thanks.
