Lags incompatability with Magix MEP-10US???

Post by 808-buma » Thu Jun 15, 2006 11:24 pm

hello all,
I just started encountering this problem recently with my Lagarith-encoded AVI clips when I work in MEP-10US. At first, I thought that it was due to some sort of incompatability with my new Athlon X2 (4200X2) , but now I see it happening on my work machine too (a P4 3.2ghz). Here are the images:

then comes the bad frame

Okay, here's the details: I start out with DVD footage that I index using DGIndex and then take that into VirtualDubMod/AVISynth to save my clips as Lagarith-encoded AVI files. I then import them into MEP to work with and make my videos - and this is where the probem starts.

I can see it when I preview it in the editor preview window, but if I look at the source AVI file, it isn't there. The errors always appear in the same place so I thought that it was in the original file.

If I export my final video from MEP as a Lagarith encoded AVI or as an MPEG2 file, it shows up in the final. If I export it as a Huffyuv encoded AVI, it doesn't appear. Mind you, this doesn't happen with all the AVI files, either - only some of them display this artifacting.

I could just work in Huffyuv AVI files, but they take up so much more room than the Lagarith files (both are lossless codecs). I at first thought that it was the Lagarith codec, but now I think it might be an incompatability with MEP as if I use another MPEG encoder and directly encode the orignial source Lagarith AVI, the error doesn't appear.

So, anyone have any ideas?

Try encoding without null frames, if you can. That could be it.

What version of Lagarith are you using? I had that problem with the previous version that came with the AMVapp, iirc. Since I've upgrade to the latest version, the problem virtually disappeared (one clip had a bit of that but somehow I managed to fix it).

Lagarith v1.3.8

It shows up in other places, like TMPGEnc. That's why if I'm working with Lagarith and just want to feed the AVI to the MPEG encoder, I convert it to HuffYV12 (YV12-mode HuffYUV, only available using ffdshow's VFW interface) first, since that works perfectly. It's also much closer to the sizes that Lagarith gets, but not quite.

Hmmm, I've never had any problems like that with lagarith. But yea, like Kalium said, make sure you dont have null frames enabled, and also you should make sure to check "always suggest rgb for output".

to all - thanks for the replies :)

zarxrax - aha! this might be the case! I upgraded recently to the latest lags and I didn't reset the settings (null frames and RGB). Something to try :)

Qyot27 - I only see it in my editor and when it I export it as an MPEG (when I export from my editor as a Lags file, you don't see it there, but when it encodes, it appears).

willen - strange, it was the opposite for me. I think its my lack of resetting the defaults :)

kalium - yes, I think you and zarx are correct. I will try it again with the null frames and rgb set correctly.

woot - was driving me nuts! - thanks again
