Gravitation To Go (Yes! Izumi CAN make an actual MUSIC vid!)

Over three years since I did my last actual music video, I have done nothing but trailers in that span. What did I realize? While I did learn a lot of technical stuff doing trailers, it's application in an AMV requires 10 fold the effort.
I also hate doing AMVs! ^_^ Trailers are EASY, I don't have to put any effort, even when to do your cuts and fades is mapped out with the original trailer. Working on this actually required crazy stuff like... Effort and creativity. I'm not used to working under such conditions! It gave me headaches. -.-;
Anyway! I was asked if I could do a yaoi AMV, to which I replied 'I don't do AMVs! I do trailers!' then I got the idea of doing something with Ready To Go by Republica, since I'd wanted to do a 'singing' video. Initially I thought maybe some sorta 'Yaoi Opus' with Shuichi singing and lots of shots from shounen ai type series. Threw that out the window and I decided to do an MTV style Gravitation music video with Shuichi lipsyncing a great deal of the song while telling a story between the singing. This is something that couldn't be accomplished with a lot of animes since they lack actual 'singing' scenes, I can think of only a few other series/movies that someone could do a 'music video' style AMV to.
The upload is an MKV containing h.264 and AAC audio so you'll need CCCP http://cccp-project.net/ if you can't get it working on your own.
Also kudos goes to Kumaguro who mailed me the Gravitation AMVs. While this isn't my first video to be done with DVD footage it is the first where my ivtc didn't suck ass and I didn't rape it with color space conversions! ^.^

I hate you now for not doing that >:ODJ_Izumi wrote:Initially I thought maybe some sorta 'Yaoi Opus' with Shuichi singing and lots of shots from shounen ai type series.
Well the video actually is quite like something from MTV. I liked it through the chroruses of the song since that "Baby I'm ready to go" part really suits Shuichi and your lip synching work on it.
There were quite a few things that kept bothering me while watching this though. First of all I don't get why you had to do the aspect ratio switching, Gravitation looks weird in 16:9 format. I know that it might have been to emphasize the "MTV musiv video" effect but for me it was just really weird since you didn't even use the effects on those parts but you used most of them on the fullscreen scenes.
Overall I'd give this a 3/5. I guess I just couldn't get into the song too much. Especially since you just kinda threw in all random comedy and drama scenes of the series together and that didn't give me a straight experience of atmosphere or storyline. There were also some quality issues, some kinds of strange traces of deinterlacing maybe but if I remember correctly I had those same problems when I was working with my own Gravi DVDs, I just tried to edit around them when I noticed that. You can especially see what I mean at the straight lip synch of Shuichi's mouth near the end of the video.
Still a pretty nice video though, since there aren't really much quality Gravitation Videos out there.

Ohhh, "Drop Dead Gorgeous" would make such a lovely BL AMV. Hee...
Downloading, though I'm not sure I can watch it.
As for Shuichi's ukeosity, there's worse out there. At least he has spirit. He's not girly so much as he's just a genki spaz who emotes a whole lot. (OK, his stage getup is silly. Ryuichi's frilly shirt is sillier.)
Which is why I like the series; the "boy x girl-very-thinly-disguised-as-boy" deal is not my thing.
Anyway, I have all this time to chatter because it's downloading. It's odd that there aren't all that many upbeat Gravi AMVs, at least that I've seen. It's a hyper show, but people prefer to make drama/romances out of it. *shrug*

This is the price I pay for more modern compression! T_T;SarahtheBoring wrote:Downloading, though I'm not sure I can watch it.
Though seriously, the CCCP will enable playback. ^_^ And it looks soooo much nicer than the DivX. But if you need to I can link you to a rapidshare link with the DivX encoded version.
