That sword that Gil used on Lancer? We've seen it before. In episode 14, when Archer is about to shoot Berserker with that arrow and cause a huge explosion, Archer creates that sword before he turns it into an arrow.

Might be a connection there.

But if Archer is Shirou from the future why didn't he just trace Excalibur, Avalon or Caliburn and PwNz Berserker? It would take out the fun of Unlimited Blade Works but it would have worked =D

I'm assuming anyone who is reading this thread is at least only 2 episodes behind otherwise look awayyyyy.

Because he had to kill berserker 12 times. Plus there is no guarantee that one of those weapons would have done the job. notice how they didn't exactly toast Gilgamesh with Excalibur.

Ah...didn't Shirou need Saber to be able to use Caliburn because it was a holy sword and in like in Arthurian Legend, isn't it suppose to be only the "True King" can use it?

Yeah, but so what? In the legend Artur was a guy who lusted after Guiniveve. I think it's ok to be a little flexible on who can and can't use swords of legend in this show.

Another reeason is correct me if i;m wrong, but

As explained in Eps 22, its because her scabard is in him is why he can use the trace ability in the first place, despite not being a real magician. without the scabard, he'd just be a normal guy.

I'm not positive on this, but...

I think his trace ability is not the result of Avalon but just happens to be something he can do well. I don't recall anything specifically saying that the tracing ability was because of Avalon or not.

Yea I rewatched the episode, and

It says its the source of his Autoregeneration ability, and that as an Icomplete magician, he needed it as a catalyst in order to summon her, so its quite posible that that is his own ability.

Notice that when he traced it in episode 21 though, he used all of the mana paths instead of the usual 1 or 2 that he normally uses to trace with. I wonder if that has any significance....

More theorizing on that....

I think that was to show that his abilites are increasing exponentially. I just hope it's a sign that we'll see Shirou's Ultimate Blade Works before the series ends.
