Karaoke in AMVs?

Post by xycos » Wed May 10, 2006 12:03 pm

I haven't seen any AMVs which use karakoe effects (or subtitles of any type)... Is this because it would distract the viewer from the main content of the video, or is it just because people are too lazy to put it in...?

Put simply, (in most cases...there are a few exceptions)
Subtitles + amv = instadeath.
They have no place in amvs (this seems to be the opinion of the majority of editor here)
in most cases, leaving subs in is a sign of lazyness (as opposed to adding them in)
there are a few threds on the subject, but I don't have time to find a link

I think xycos was talking about putting in your own subtitles and making it look like those fancy ones fansubbers use for intros and outros.

Frankly, I think it's just more work than necessary, without adding a whole lot to the video. If containers that could turn subs on and off were more common for distribution, we might see it more often, but don't count on it until then.

This does! Soft-subbed MPEG-4 text subtitles.

I'm going to go die of shamelessness now.

I do find it somewhat humourous that the site still says the video doesn't exist.

There are some editors that have provided .srt files separate from the regular AVI releases, but that doesn't really look all that fancy (it does it's job, though). I have a video or four that I've provided subtitles for (one soft-, three hard-), but it generally just sticks to the old song-only or real speech-only, albeit two of them were for comedic effect. I haven't released those though. I'll probably do it after AMV Hell CE finishes up, so another week or two at least.

I've seen lots that sub their song...

its just not that common... i dont think its lazy "not to" put subs of your song, i do think that they can be distracting though at times
