I feel for you. I understand what you are saying and have the same experience with a few songs myself.

However, what you've said here is, in my opinion, a great compliment to the editor(s) of those AMVs.
Hmm....true....makes me think about this more......

Well actually, the pissed off feeling I get is still there so I do applaud the creator for shorting the audio in a way that I like but I still get a feeling of "damn! They changed the song! Gaaaaahhh!!!" at the back of my head.

I will be more than happy to admit that I butcher my audio tracks when creating amv's, its not because I'm lazy, its because I personally want to create an amv in either 2 ways.

1) The entier song tells the story being shown by the anime
or
2) Use sections of a song to tell the same story because the music is either too repatitive and footage becomes hard to find to fill in those spots

For those that saw Damaged-Nails, they would know I butched that song something shocking, I do regret doing that because it didn't come out perfectly however I do not regret doing it in the sense that I didn't have the footage to follow through the music.

I say if you can edit for the entire song then do it. If you cant then chop down the song . Sometimes its not possible to make a clean edit of the song.

I will edit a song if I need to for the video's concept, such as AR2. once I did edit the song because there was a verse in it I didn;t want, or couldn;t find a match for, in Mai-Reason. Sometimes though, a song just doesn;t edit right no matter how you cut it. Either you can tell the cut since it doesn;t merge properly, or the song just sounds odd with the verse or stanza missing, so I don't bother to cut it.

once I actually edited a song to make it (gasp) longer  That was AR1, since I needed an axtra verse at the end to finish the story properly.

But in all seriousness, I have no problem at all with 5 or even 10 minute long AMVs, so long as the video doesn't bore me at any point in the video. It will depend more on the editors Directing and editing tallents on if I like the vid more than how long the video is.

The way I see it editing is a form of power. What's the point of editing if your only going to edit video? Why not edit audio? That's like only using half yer power. What would Super Man be if he was super strong, but couldn't fly? What would Hard Gay be if he was gay but couldn't ding his donger (you really gotta look him up on youtube.com

I've never really edited a song down, but I have stopped a song to show something how it was shown in the anime. In my Cowboy Bebop AMV that just won at Jacon for best Drama or Romance I did just that, and it put me extremely close to the maximum time limit. I was a few seconds under the limit, and I still won, so to me it isn't a matter of quantity when editing but more a matter of quality.

As long as a person edits for quality purposes no matter how long or short the AMV might be then I really don't care. I've made 1:15 AMV's and 6:00 AMV's, and I put the same amount of quality into all of them. I've never once edited for quantity, and it would never cross my mind.

well I'm not saying u have to just cuz u have the option. If anything I HATE people that think like that. All they make are random videos w/ as many random transitions they can think to put in. I'm just saying it's not bad a bad thing if u edit the audio. I'm just against it for the soul purpose of the time durration. Stop worrying about how long it is, and worry about the content.

If people cared about how long an AMV was then no1 would have watched AMV Hell 3. It's the content that matters, so lets worry about that more.

Audio editing is a little like effects usage in some ways. Most videos don't need it, some would benefit from a little of it, a few are improved with a lot of it, and a very small number rely on it.

The song I'm currently using has had twenty seconds cut from the outro and a couple of seconds of silence inserted in the middle. The outro was cut partly because it was too long and too repetitive, and partly because the video had reached its natural conclusion. This is a fancy way of saying that I ran out of footage and extending the video would have introduced random filler. :) I'm not willing to rip out a song's heart for the sake of a good video, but I'll happily sacrifice as many extremities as necessary.

I can watch filler during solos or other unique parts of the song, but filler during an easily-cut verse, chorus or intro/outro will likely put me off the whole vid unless I like it enough to edit it myself.

The last 1/3 of most songs is repititious crap. A bigger longer amv doesn't equate penis size.

Ok.

What I wanted to say was that you should at least consider editing the audio. Not that you have to edit audio, only that it should be considered.

Anyway, I went nuts with my last AMV and edited two techno songs together. This makes me think that, someone with more skill than I, could really create something unique in this way.

Can anyone post any good examples of where two or more songs have been combined in an AMV? (I don't mean an AMV with more than one song, I mean that the two songs are overlayed or otherwise mixed together.)
