EAC problems

EAC isn't detecting my DVD drive in the wizard for some reason, and then says I don't have an audio CD in the drive, when I do (new Goo Goo Dolls album, Let Love In)

Is it because I'm running Windows Server 2003? I did install the ASPI layer already.

Any ideas?

Probably the CD is copy protected.

Out of curiousity: Why are you running Win2k3 (Server) and not WinXP Pro (Workstation) at your editing machine?

I don't think it's copy protected, unless it isn't even labeled as such. To my knowledge (I don't buy many CDs) they had lawsuits, so Copy-Protected CDs are labeled as such nowadays. They aren't allowed to use the "CD" logo on the case unless it meets official specs. Otherwise it has a logo that says like "Enhanced CD" on it or similar. I was able to copy the song using Windows Media Player 10 at least, but that only allowed me to go to WMA Lossless, and not PCM.

And the reason I'm using Win2003 is I'm kinda an anti-bloatware activist I guess. I happily used Win2000 for over 5 years now, and only recently even switched to Win2003 on a whim when building my new computer here. I boot at 55mb of ram with full functionality, and haven't had any problems running multimedia or games so far. (Half Life 2 runs flawless, WoW is great too)

I guess maybe I'll have to reinstall with XP if I want to use a modern version of Premiere *sigh* I'll see about cutting XP down to a manageable OS with the install customizer.

First off, 99.9% of al CDs have Copy Protection (maybe not THAT high, but just about all of them do), so yours has it, too. Don't think that the company will tell you that it has CP on it's CDs, either. CConsumers aren't in there best intrest, money is.

My best guess would be that the disc is damaged or the laser itself is. Check the disc, and if isn't scratched, then it's most likely a problem with the laser. I had the same problem a while ago and it turned out that the laser had fried. In this case, take your computer to your local computer store and have them check for you.

in my experience, EAC is sorta picky about settings. Try and use CDex instead. Been using it for years, and have never run into a problem. I only use EAC if there's scratches on the disc or something else that prevents CDex from reading the data.

Alright thanks. I doubt the laser is broken or anything, because I can play the CD just fine, and WMP10 copied it just fine as well. Probably something related to Win2K3 I guess.
