AHHH!!! I'm a syncaholic!!!
Sure I started my first video with good intentions... things had a nice even flow, I didn't feel pressured into anything! I was riding high on good feelings! But then I found sync. I synched up some scenes with music and they looked great... but then... I couldn't stop. I was trying to get sync anywhere I could, snare drums, bass beats, even Thom Yorke's vocals. By the time I was into my second video, I was snorting sync off strippers' titties in back allies, thinking about my next fix... and now I can't get off it. It was only when I watched some videos that adequately transitioned and used action without syncing it to every beat that I realized I had a problem.
In all seriousness though, when I'm making my videos I always feel the need to sync everything lest it look "awkward." I mean, it's a give and take and really my it's not exactly a big "problem," so to speak, but how do y'all find a balance in your videos where you don't feel the need to have everything synched to the music? I've seen vids that are great with everything synched and some that you don't even notice aren't particularly synched. What are your thoughts on the matter?

Yeah, sometimes I see myself falling back on persussion or some other beat. But, for the most part, I stick to the story. That's just how it is. In my opinion, sync is used mostly to establish flow. Percussion sync will do that.
Ah well. Fancy gets the fans.

Actually i think is what i was talking about, when i made my effect-hungry thread.
I usually only make effects in sync....
And it is the warm feeling of syncing the entire song that leads into a pile of uselessness....
But, i'll resist....next time....

I think that is incorrect as a blanket statement; there are plenty of videos that use a lot of synch effectively, and not out of a lack of confidence or ability. I didn't post this as a " ;_; I'm synching everything and it is not teh win, help me!" thread, I just wanted to see some various opinions on the subject. I have no real issue with the amount of synch in my videos. Its very natural to want to synch everything. Its comes from inexperience and a lack of confidence in your abilities, which of course we all start out with.
There are plenty of times when I watch lyric synchs or other synchs and go "wtf would you do that? That had no purpose whatsoever!" though =/

However if you keep doing it people will start identifying it as your "style"Beowulf wrote:Its very natural to want to synch everything. Its comes from inexperience and a lack of confidence in your abilities, which of course we all start out with.
