I dont understand that rule, first off its an entirely biget thing to do.. I mean anime can be said as a short version of animation, and cartoons are animation and therefore are a form of anime... they are American Animations.amvwizard wrote:Tom And Jerry isn't anime sorry to say
Not to mention the rule isnt even enforced, I have seen countless AMV's done to things like Ice Age. But I wont argue, Tom & Jerry are probably the furthest things from Japanese Anime.

Bigoted how? The website is 'AnimeMusicVideos' not 'AnimationMusicVideos'shinji13 wrote:I dont understand that rule, first off its an entirely biget thing to do.. Like it or not, Anime is, for the majority of people, the common term associated with Japanese animation (...and because it'd be a pain in the ass to have to change the addy to 'JapanimationMusicVideos.org')
It's not like they don't have websites out there that don't cater to live-action MVs or MVs using western animation, they simply just aren't part of the rubric here.
Besides, a line has to be drawn somewhere, simply because, if all forms of animation were accepted, the site would be swamped with entries with that extra restriction removed...and, I might add, more legally vulnerable (anime distributors are generally more lenient towards AMVs than some of the American animation groups might be.)
Hell, the org just recently had to make new restrictions in terms of vid hosting with music to prevent lawsuit, I REALLY don't see them wanting to get into this semantics debate anytime soon.
and as for your findings...well, the rule is basically works as an honor system, trusting users to follow the rules on their own, and, failing that, trusting other users to report violations. Let's face it, the admin are human, they can't watch out for every little thing (That's what the Mod Drop Box is for)
Also, were these videos exclusively western animation? If not, they might have grounds for being on there, depending how much of the vid is anime in origin.
In either case, if you find a vid that you feel is in breach of the rules, don't just brush it off as poor enforcing, do your part and report it.
That said, remember, technically there's no rule forbidding the entry being on here...you just can't host the vid on the org's bandwidth is all.

No I dont report them, I've seen thousands of videos here and opped hundreds and I would say 1 out of 10 are breaking one of the rules, in my opinion if it has artistic quality follows the line of animation or 'anime' as you otaku may call it then I am not going to go out of my way just to be a big ass. On the other hand if someone is making a bunch of live-action videos to The Matrix or Lord of the Rings then of course I will.
Anyway, anime did originate in japan but calling it japanese all the time is like calling all asians chinese [which by the way piss's asians off if they're not chinese], just getting into technicalities.
Also, do you have a link to one of these Live-Action websites because I have yet to find a site that is similar to a-m-v.org only with live.. they all only carry their own videos.

The western definition of the term anime is "Japanese animation". There's western animation which is heavily influenced by anime (like Teen Titans, which I would say is good despite trying to leech off of the popularity of anime), but Japanese animation has its own qualities that set it apart from western animation, both in style and substance, even when one tries to mimic the other. We make that distinction because its the easiest way to define anime as a genre, and it works quite well.
To work with a reference you used--anime is a subset of animation, just as Chinese are a subset of Asians. Sailor Moon and Winx Club are both animated, but only one is anime.

Wikipedia's definitioin of the termonology Animation
It is a direct transliteration and reborrowed loanword of the English term "animation." The Japanese term is abbreviated as anime'. Both the original and abbreviated forms are valid and interchangeable in Japanese, but as could be expected the abbreviated form is more commonly used. The term is a broad one, and does not specify an animation's nation of origin or style.
