Spleen in the sky.

Originally started as an experiment in ultimate wrongness. The first time that I heard this song I couldn’t help but to be amused. The overly contorted reading of Beaudelaire, and the over the top recording of a Beatles cover song just seemed so bizarre.

The original concept for my ‘wrongness videos’ actually came from a late night chat session with a member who shall be unnamed, but is well known for an E-Nomine video using Blood and Vampire Hunter D. What’s the most unlikely combination possible he postulated: Celine Dion and Dragon Ball Z, was my counter. This video can be found in my profile. Sometime later I was tempted to up the ante. What could be worse than just music and video forced into an unholy alliance I thought. Two video sources that should never be near each other. Spleen was born. The distorted and dark ending of Berserk mixed with the lighthearted and childish Mao-Chan – Defender of earth set to the mind boggling readings of William Shatner, surely must be the ultimate.

My journey was set. After purchasing the DVD set of Berserk, and discovering how abrupt and painfully horrid the ending was, I ripped the series, concentrating on the dark delusions of the end chapters. Netflix supplied Mao-chan and my collection the rest. The project in motion, I spent an agonizing period of time plagued by program crashes, frequently after every single edit. I began expecting that the program would crash every time I pulled a clip down from the preview window. Saving frantically ever few moments. I also chose to add some digital effects to the video, replacing sky with bloody abandon (literally buckets of blood) and adding spashes of blood to the magical girl scenes. Mattes abound and virtually every clip was retimed to match the ‘music’.

Eventually I’d reached a point of appx 95% I’d say, where the video simply needed a few timing tweaks, and the effects cleaned up and done right. Essentially a beta state. I began rendering beta tests to my desktop so that I could check out the finished look.

Imagine my horror at losing my entire hard drive, along with all my work. For some months I agonized against placing the video online since I felt that it was (duh) in an unfinished state and that the effects were horrid.

Amazingly the video has proven to be one of my stronger entries, and has generated lots of praise, both for it’s creativity and it’s creepy introductory sequence. It actually was nominated to the semi finals for the VCA awards to my amazement. Was the hard work and pain worth this abortive effort? Enough people have seen and commented that this video sticks in their mind to lead me to think so. What's your opinion on that?

Even if the morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forstall my return.

To become the dew that quenches the land, To spare the sands, the seas, the skies, I offer thee this silent sacrifice.

I wouldn't mind an opinion on any of my amv's... Well not every one of them. I'll start with the reason "because". I've made at least 5-7 amv's and out of all of them I've only gotten three opinions.

Any way, I guess the one I want the opinion on the most would have to be the one I made with the anime Wolf's Rain. I put it together with the song, Freak on a Leash by Korn. I thought the lyrics of the song went with the anime. I know theres a few things I've could of done better, but it was my second amv I ever finished. Which I think I did alright...

But yeah, I can't really explain much more about the amv.

Thank you
