90% of all anime has either one 16 year old male who gets mad and beats people up, or one 14 year old male who is sexually frustrated. Usually its a combination of both. That is rock music.

Hahaha, that's a new definition for me, but it works so well.

Actually, yeah. AMV's are a hobby so the people that make them most prolifically are going to be using music that they listen to regularly. Exceptions like Les Miserales (sappy self indulgence), Angels Redemption (sound effect from the game DOOM), and of course one of my favorites: Wasteland, are all wonderful, but they are aberrations.

Honestly, I think that a lot of people really DO try to be original with their music choices though. I think that if you spend a few moments just randomly searching you'll see a huge variety, everything from Abba to William Shater reading Beaudelaire poems (shameless plug!), to Romany rave music.

Rock lasted at LEAST until 1995. What do you call Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains?
Alternative? Grudge? They have certainly been inspired by rock, but what Soundgarden and Pearl Jam made is far from genuine rock like AC/DC, Purple, Zeppelin etc. I can't find almost anything in common if I compare them. Rock is an offspring of mother "Country" and daddy "Blues" which bands as powerful as Pearl Jam and Nirvana certainly don't have in their songs.

I love all the bands you mentioned but as far as I'm concerned the peak of rock are the 70's. The music that came afterwards was also heavily based on guitars, but doesn't have the same feel and mood, it's something completely different. Different sound, different song motives and lyrics, different song structure etc. It doesn't matter if Curt Cobain's main inspiration was Led Zeppelin, he still didn't make that kind of music that inspired him. I hope you get what I'm aiming at.

shpongles wrote:I'm sure I'm not the only one who's noticed the abundance of hard modern rock in AMVs here. There's already a bunch of discussion on it around. :)
I don't use modern rock bands, I use music from Old School Metal Bands (ie MegaDeth (1983-Present); and Tankard (1986-present) not to mention I still have songs from olde Archenemy, Pantera, Iced Earth, New Archenemy, Dischord, Death, Motorhead, Helloween and DamagePlan. I will also use Hawaiian Songs if the mood suits me.

I just think the modern rock/nu-metal is getting use because that is what people (ignorant kids) listen to. See I won't make an AMV from songs I don't listen to. I would expect the same from everyone else here. A lot of early InuYasha AMV's for example use a lot of techno. Then moved to the more popular Evencence and System of a Down.

So if you don't listen/like the song don't use it. That is why the opinion sheet asks you only give points on the the technical side. I suspect the Comments are for the artistic merits.
