Episode encoding

Well, me and a friend and a bunch of other people are gonna be fan dubbing the first episode of naruto...But my friend wants a copy of the cropped version I have, but I don't know what codec I should use it. What to you people out there reccomend? =O

I recommend you order the DVD instead; its street date is March 28th, so it wouldn't delay your plans very long.

I'd do that...But we'd kinda like to start this VERY soon, I'd get the DVD if it was uncut, bit I don't know...Still, do you have any ideas of what would be a good codec to use keeping the quality and under 5GB?

Well, what codec does the cropped version you have use?

If it's something distributable like DivX/XviD, you can just send that to him and advise him on <a href="http://www.amvwiki.org/index.php/DivX_Editing">what to do with such footage if you want to edit it</a>.

Actually, the cropped version I have is an AVIstynth script....I just need a good codec to encode it with.

... Oh. In that case, you're not going to find one that keeps the quality <i>and</i> can encode an entire episode to under 5 GB.

You could try Lagarith; I hear that gives better compression than HuffYUV while remaining lossless.

Other than that, my best suggestion would be MPEG-2 at pretty darn high bitrate settings. That should be more like 1 GB than like 5, and hopefully there won't be too much artifacting.
