Just saw Chobits, and I have some questions. *Spoilers*

My biggest question is probably:

Why was Chi naked, wrapped in bandages, and in the trash in the first episode?

Why would the manager (sorry, forgot her name) want to put Chii in the trash like that? Didn't she want Chii to find "The one just for me"? Seems like she could have gone about it a different way than let someone find her in the garbage.

Why was that little kid so smart and so rich? I don't think a reason was ever given in the anime, but what about in the manga?

Does the manga go deeper and expand on more things than the anime? Does the manga have more story-related parts, or more just-for-fun parts?

Who created those two black Persocoms to observe Chii?

What was Chii doing those times when she made the Persocoms stop? Was it, like, a project to make all Persocoms end up like Chii, or something?

Any other important details that I should know?

Hope this answers some of your questions.

Ok then, I suppose I'll answer your questions, or as best as I can.

1) My guess as to why Chii was wrapped in bandages would be that Chitose Hibiya, her 'mother', did not want Chii to have anything that may remind her of her previous life. Her memory was erased so that she wouldn't have the emotional overload that her 'sister', Freya, did.

What I mean is any clothes or such that would directly pertain to Chii. She does live in the same apartment building but does very little actually with Chii until the end of the series.

2) Minoru Kokubunji...why was he so smart? He was a child prodigy, enrolled at the top magnet school in the district. His family is quite wealthy, as is evident by their household, but Minoru himself would be able to make quite a lot of money as well. His 'maids' were all special built persocoms built by Minoru himself, even his personal persocom, Yuzuki. Then look at how Hideki reacts to the price of the typical persocom when he sees them in the store window in chapter 1/episode 1.

The manga doesn't say anything as to Minoru's wealth either.

3) For the most part, the storyline of both the manga and anime are identical. Side stories, fillers, differ here and there, but nothing real different.

4) The government made both of the 'black persocoms', Dita and Jima. They were programmed and installed with the best top of the line hardware in order to maintain functionality during the chobits program. That and they functioned as the national databank/anti-hack system for the country.

5) Chii was executing a program embedded into her source that effected the other persocoms. I believe, what the book said, was that it would make persocoms unable to determine the difference between human and persocom, in otherwords, unifying them with the human race.

6) Hideki never once used Chii to browse the internet, word processing, porn viewing, etc. like he said he would with a persocom.

I loved this series when it came out and it's still one of my favorites.

I think to answer some of your questions to be difficult. Zima and Dita were sent from the National Data Bank to stop Chii from becoming emotive. Once the programming for her emotions were activated, all persocoms would receive the information and process it. Unfortunately, normal persocoms could rarely be able to process that much data. That is why I believe they shut down. Another note, if you paid attention, Zita and Dima were in love with each other. And Zima only wanted happiness for Chii.

There could be several reasons why Miss Hibiya left Chii wrapped in bandages in the trash. First and foremost that comes to mind is it would be an incredible find. Also, she might have known the Hedeki would be walking down that alley, or had seen him coming maybe. Either way, it makes for a great story.

Minoru Kokubunji, they don't really give a reason why he's rich, it almost seems like his parents died or that they were away. As for how smart he is, anyone who can use their brain can be smart. He reads books, articles on the internet, and is a master with computers. I was the same way at his age...just not rich.

Hopefully this helps clarify a few things, I've never read the manga so I couldn't tell you what the differences are.
