What are the specs, and what are your motherboard's specs?

Unless we have some details to work with, we can't say anything about what might happen.

Anyway, if the RAM is better than required, then it will probably underclock itself. If it's too slow, then one of two things can happen. First, all your RAM could slow down to that speed, depending on the mobo. Second, it might be ignored.

DDR2 ram will not work in a DDR motherboard. DDR2 is a new ram that came out in the last year or so, so if your motherboard is older than that it can't use it. DDR2 uses 240 pin connector and DDR uses 184, they use different voltages too. This is a good place to learn about memory http://www.kingston.com/tools/umg/default.asp

Check on your motherboard for a manufacturer name and model number, it should be somewhere on the board. There also will be a version number. If you know the manufacturer, you can check their web site for help, they probably have the manual available for download. If it's an older board it can probably use 3200DDR that you can find for pretty low prices. Try one of these sites or Best Buy.
