Resident Eva: Apocalypse (Evangelion vs Resident Evil)

Post by DJ_Izumi » Tue Jan 31, 2006 11:13 am

Yuppers. I made another trailer agian. Hopefully this one will be a crowd pleaser. :)

Some time in 2002 a guy called ShounenDizzyCow did a trailer of Evangelion to Resident Evil. I liked it a lot and I decided to follow up by doing Evangelion to the RE sequel, Resident Evil: Apocalypse.

Soo after two days of editing I hacked 150 seconds of anime goodness together and crammed it into 50mb of DivX. ^_^

Screenies!

And of course, getting the goods. :D

This is a DivX 6 video with MP3 audio. It's 2 mins and 30 seconds long and it weighs in at 52mb. Right click and select save as. Enjoy and please leave some comments. :3

I'm no big fan of trailers but I did enjoy this.

I'm going to take a wild guess and assume that this is an unofficial sequel and isn't really a continuation of ShonenDizzyCow's video. Particularly since most of the Eva characters are cast as different people than the original video (although most of those would be dead), even the one returning movie character. Either way, this is a pretty good trailer. The video was good at matching the audio, although some of the casting was terrible and did not match the voices provided.

The casting was more due to the limits with the cast.

Eva had an absense of black guys to say 'What was that?' or 'There's something in here!' So I just went with what ever was available. Shinji was the only one who could do Jill since Eva 01 stomps around with a desert eagle for a while and such. Asuka had to be Alice, Misato just didn't have the scenes in Eva to pull it off for this trailer.

I honestly would have prefered to do it different but I couldn't find any alternatives. :(

Yeah, I figured Shinji's casting was due to limitations on other characters and the action scenes. My first thought when I saw this was "Why didn't you use Rei instead?", but then I remembered that Rei was something of a villain in this trailer, although... she shows up briefly looking something like a normal person and not some product of the virus so she can say a line that doesn't match her appearance.

As for the other castings, I know what it's like to run out of characters or not have a good match for a particular line. These are some of the solutions I've used that seemed somewhat acceptable (Particularly if a character only has one line). Have the 'speaker' off camera when the dialogue comes up. You can sometimes get by with showing a scene relating to the spoken dialogue so you wouldn't have to worry about casting. Another solution would be that similar voices can be done by the same character. Although, you have to have some characters to begin with. For your video, I noticed that Hyuga and Kaji didn't have any lines. They would probably have been better for the lines given to Maya, Misato, and Rei even if one of them would have been given 2 roles. Hyuga could have been given both lines of "There's something in here" and "What was that" and it still might have looked ok. The voices don't so different that it would be incredibly obvious to the viewer that they might be 2 different people (especially since they are fast), but the current setup makes it incredibly obvious that the voices aren't matched with the character.

Sorry for going on about this, but I'm a big fan of trailer videos and this is the kind of painful detail I like to see in order to maintain suspension of disbelief. It just bothers me when I see a big flaw in an otherwise excellent video. Either way, I’ll be adding this video to my AMV folder

QC, you wouldn't happen to have the MPEG-1 verson of the original Resident Eva, would you?

I had it but I lost it in a HDD death now I can only find the 5mb WMV one. :(

Final Doom "Amazing things will happen here soon."

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Substance "Everyone knows that it's a dangerous substance."

What's so weird about it?

1) Shinji's a pussy
2) Shinji's voice acted by a girl in the anime anyway
