What does it take to get a 4.0 + star rating?

Post by Gallup » Sun Jan 15, 2006 11:47 pm

I have made a number of vids and though I seem to improve with each vid my star average remains below 4.0 on each new vid I put online. Is it even possible to get above a 4.0? I know that some people don't take the rating system very seriously but it still seems odd that my numbers would remain so low. Before people get the wrong idea I am not complaining. I am just curious as to whether or not anyone, becides me, actually puts thought into the score they give a vid they have watched.

I think it depens on who rates it... some people rate it half assedly (the people that rated my crappy video) and some people do it right (mostly the people that give you opinions)

I wouldn't take the star rating too seriously, just compare it to AMVs you've seen and decide for yourself what kind of star rating the video is..

(Mine... I would say 1/5... yep, that bad)

It is indeed possible to get higher than a 4.0; the top Star Scale lists attest to that.

I don't know quite what to say about how to go about getting such a score. It seems insane originality isn't required, because my FLCL/Evanescence video has such a score...

A handful of my AMVs are above a 4.0 and honestly I can't figure out why the ones that are that well scored are scored any better than my other AMVs. The only trend that I notice is a decent all around vid. Good capture, sound, synching, and if nothing else a vid that moves the viewer in some way (whether to laugh, cry, smile, dance, anything).

I had a 4 star rating on one of my videos out of 16 scores, but after I announced it and gave away information that I spent 4 hours on it, it dropped all the way down to a 3 in two days.. :\

some of my crappiest videos have higher star ratings than my better videos (better as in better quality, and better editing) and the only thing I can think of is because they use pop music (as in popular music) and some of my better ones dont use pop music....

I wouldnt worry too much about the star rating, or the opinions scores or whatever, worry more about what people say about the video, what they wright down, especially UNSOLICITED cause it means that your video moved them (good or bad) to want leave you feedback... most people dont want to take that extra step, and alot of the times it takes something extraordinairy to get them to do so (for me especially Ops... I leave QCs on almost everything I watch)

I've got a couple AMVs hovering just above 4. I'm surprised that one of them is my first video, which used DL'd clips and was made with WMM.

Getting a good score can be luck-of-the-draw. It really depends on who watches it. My latest video's first star rating was a 5, but the next person gave it a 2 (I still don't understand why :? ), which put a huge dent in the score. The AMV's back up to 3.7 now, but the 2 really effected the overall score.

lol.. I have the same "problem" as you do. 8-)

"LP / pop music > originality, quality and better editing"
