Tell the mods the truth and send in a deletion request anyway. SOme of them are nice about it. ;)

Of course, this one time, they deleted the whole video info PAGE instead of just the local download, but I'm not complaining. XD

It's like wanting to remove a movie from existance, once it's made public it's there to stay.

This sites goal is to have an entry for every AMV that has ever existed and as such once it's entered, everone knows it exists..

Think of it as a a producer wanting to erase one of his titles from the film catalog...

Well, government censorship can be fairly effective at doing that.

How that translates to the .org, I'm not sure. Maybe Phade?

well, you know, if you havn't tried it already... you can contact the admins (phade i guess has the ultimate decision) and plead with him to remove the video or at least remove the link?

That's why in the end it's good to have a back-up so people can't delete their vid descriptions. The video remains listed in the database, just like out of print books remain listed in library catelogues, even when they're no longer available.

The idea is to make the video unavailable, not to erase its listing in the catelogue. Take your movie comparison - people who bought the movie will still have it, video rentals will still have it, but it won't be available in stores anymore. The movie doesn't stop existing just because the producers only sold a limited number of copies, it just becomes harder to get.

I agree with SQ that most mods are nice about it if you talk to them. I just think it would be easier for everyone if there was a new option on the "acceptable reasons to ask for deletion" list - a 'special circumstances' loophole. It's not hard to lie about the reason you want a vid deleted, but it would be easier to just say I was an idiot noob when I uploaded this and I hate seeing it use as much bandwidth as my better vids - let me stick it on indirect-only so the site doesn't suffer for my stupidity. Sure, it's easy for a creator to PM a mod or admin with the same request, but I wouldn't want to be the person whose inbox is flooded with them.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to make a separate form for "request deletion of local copy of video only".

That's understandable...

I think having the entry stay for a video once it's entered as a catalog of it's existance is a resonable rule for the site. After all, it's suppose to be a catalog of every AMV ever made.

In terms of the local link, I think this is something that can be brought up with Phade and the other mods to see how it's felt about alowing a request for removing the link for downloading if so asked by the creator with a resonable reason for it...

Following a sometime-practice in the movie industry, the d/b could re-file these AMVs under the name of "Alan Smithee" or something more anime-related ("Nabeshin" ??).

No. I'm sure we all still want credit, we just don't want them on local anymore.
