What makes a amv not a random act

Post by burntresistor » Wed Dec 28, 2005 5:38 pm

I've seen a lot of amvs that seem random clips to me or think "hey, I could have done that better" or "I would have done this"(of course I’m not speaking of any experienced editor) what helps the audience see that there is a method to this madness. I'm finishing up on a action amv and don't want it to be thought as that.

Well honestly action videos are the hardest in my opinion. Currently I'm working on an action amv as well. The thing is that you want to still follow the lyrics the best you can and keep it fast paced. Plus also you want to have alot more beat sync in the video. Really I don't treat action videos that much different. I try to compose a story with the lyrics and have it go with the flow of the music.

Actually putting effort and hard work into it.

assume your audience hasn't seen the anime and can't understand the lyrics.

Assuming the latter can be problematic, but assuming the former is probably a good idea.

If you actually match the beat to your clips and maybe even add some lipsync that already puts you ahead of half the AMVs uploaded to this website :P

Heh, that's something that helped push me to start editing AMVs.

Have a central idea for the video. Don't include clips that don't support that central idea just because you need to fill the timeline. Note, I don't mean a complex story here, the central idea can be something as basic as 'look at all these people dancing'.

One of the reasons i don't release that many videos. Care about quality content and you will take forever to do things(or if you have tons of free time).

Also how do you define an action vid anyways i have many Drama vids that can be called action but never called them that. On the same token If you make a drama video and have tons of action scenes in it. Would you call it an action video then?
