Where is the list of acceptable anime?
Aside from the place of submittion, when you actually put down the anime used for the AMV, I don't know where to look to see if something is acceptable or not. For instance, when I was working on my Advent Children flick I didn't know if Advent Children could be mined for clips.
Now, I want to do a Justice League and Justice League Unlimited clip. Are those - under the technical rules of this website - anime? What is the final word and where can I find this list normally so that I can check it whenever I have a question?
Thanks in advance.

The rule on this site is that allowable footage is Japanese anime and anime-inspired videogame footage (such as FF), as well as original animation. Un-allowable footage is everything else.
When you go to list your video, there's a huge list of anime that you have to go through in order to choose what sources you used. There's also a key that indicates what some things are (for example, stuff that's crossed out is non-anime, IIRC).
If you enter a new title into the database, it has to be approved by a mod before you can upload a video locally. If you're not sure if a source is allowed, post to the Modbox, I suppose, or Site Help. Someone will let you know whether or not you can upload a video using that source.

Another way to check without having to enter a vid description (you're not supposed to even put a description of non-anime vids on your profile) is to check the "search by anime" option. On the member main page, lower left - search for vids, and then 'by anime'. You get a list of all the sources listed on the org so far. The confirmed anime (usable) titles are normal type, while the unacceptable/unconfirmed/non-anime titles are in italics. If you have a source that isn't on the list, you'd have to go to the mods, but chances are it's already listed in the database.

I don't think the rules aren't that strict. As I understand it, any kind of footage is allowed, as long as the majority of the AMV is made by footage which fits the site-rules for Anime.dokool wrote:The rule on this site is that allowable footage is Japanese anime and anime-inspired videogame footage (such as FF), as well as original animation. For example, you could mix your Advents Children and your Justice League footage. If Advents Children is the majority of your MV, it would still fit the site rules. Or am I wrong with this?

As the one who worked on the rules of what is considered anime and approves most of the new anime Title entries, here is what the criteria for acceptability (on this site) is in a nutshell in general:
Animation:
Animation that originates from Japan (Anime)... There is a lot of "Anime" style of cartoons now out there originating for all over, but in order to qualify to be anime, it must of been done in Japan, or controlled by a studio in Japan. (for example, Cyber-Six is a Canadian/French co-production commissioned to a Japanese studio and this not considered anime). Live action versions of anime don't count as it's no longer "Anime".
Games:
A few factors:
- Games must be made in Japan under the control of a Japanese company.
- Games must be in the style and spirit of anime (not based on North American or other country icons).
- The game may premier outside of Japan so long as the above criteria is met
Games are a sticky area and some exceptions/special considerations apply in grey situations, but the above for the most part is deemed acceptable.
Anything else is generally not considered "Anime" for the purposes of this site. There may always be some exceptions, but if you stick to titles conforming to the above, you should be fine... (and yes, so as long as your video contains anime for the most part, your fine with mixing in non-anime titles)
Also, make sure to look for over the anime title list carefully when entering new titles. The standard naming convention is based on the English title. Make sure to use the full title as well or it gets real hard to confirm an anime title that may match other variations.
Hope this helps and answers the question

dokool, thanks for the info about the site help. Nevertheless, my query was about 1)Justice League and 2) how to find previously approved shows and clips aside from the anime submission technique.
Arigatomina, I had tried that and found that there was a number of Justice League vids that were down, but a few that were up. The weight was in the "no JL", but it was far from conclusive. Thanks.
Keeper of Hellfire, I have no intention of putting in a video that has partial credit.
Vlad, thanks for the heads up on the exact applications and definitions for the rules of the site. I guess I just want the People Who Rule to create an easy to access "list" of approved anime.
For instance, when I did my Advent Children video, I had no idea of whether or not it was approved anime. I then suddenly realized just before I posted it that I couldn't know if it fit the rules or not beforehand. I now know better, but what about next time? Should I ask each time? Should I ask the mods? (query: mod?) I don't want to have to spend 10-20 hours making an awesome video only to find out that I can only show it to my best friend Steve. What is the solution?
PS: while I have all y'all's attention, what about Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3?

as it was explained above.
Justice Leauge, no.
Not anime, nor anime-inspired.
as for Metal Gear Solid, I'm guessing no, but I haven't played the games.
The only other way to find out if footage is considered anime is to ask on the forums.
The reason that you find some amvs with JL in them is becauset they follow the site rule that amvs must contain at least 75% anime footage.
