I just got done making my second AMV and got a few comments about using some more Avisynth filters to up the quality of my vid. Unfortunately, the only filters that I know of are the ones that are included in VicBond007's guide for ripping DVD footage. So my question (or discussion) has become this:
What filters or scripting do you use to get the best quality from your DVD's?

Plugin filters I'm fond of:
All four Dusts (FaeryDust, SpaceDust, PixieDust, GoldDust; which one depends on the specific video), Deen (not so much anymore though), eDeen, VagueDenoiser, FluxSmooth, TemporalCleaner, DeDot, UnDot, TBilateral (but it's SLOW AS HELL), SmoothD, HQDN3D, MSharpen, and RemoveGrain (via the LRemoveDust script)
Script functions I'm fond of:
FastLineDarken, K-mftoon, LimitedSharpen, LRemoveDust, PSharpen, SSXSharpen, and my own <a href="http://www.tcnj.edu/~tomwol2/scripts/LU ... Rainbow</a>

Wow, that's a lot of stuff. Do you use them for all of the clips that you do, or does it just depend on how the clip is acting that you use these filters and scripts?Scintilla wrote:Plugin filters I'm fond of:

Every source has different problems that require different handling, and sometimes my filter choices vary between versions of a video (hi-res vs. low-res, and don't forget convention submissions).beau kang wrote:Wow, that's a lot of stuff. For example, there's no point in using DeDot unless a source has dot crawl, and there's no point in using a derainbower like LUTDeRainbow unless a source has rainbowing.
I'm much more likely to use PixieDust or GoldDust on a low-res version where the main consideration is getting the file size as low as possible, because they're slow and sometimes cause blockiness.
SmoothD isn't the best at preserving detail, but it's great for getting rid of blocky noise. And so on.

Re: How to get the best quality
I take the time to think about what I want to do, not just apply procedures in a ham-fisted manner.beau kang wrote:What filters or scripting do you use to get the best quality from your DVD's?
This means that AviSynth sometimes doesn't even play a part.
To continue the theme of this post, I want to emphasize that those scripts are meant for experimentation, and not a Final Solution.downwithpants wrote:obligatory amvwiki plug:
