Plan B for when the ORG bites it.

Post by requiett » Mon Nov 21, 2005 3:02 pm

I'm sure with this recent Wind-Up Records business, some people are probably so freaked out about losing the org, that they can't sleep at night. Well, perhaps it'd put some of your fears to rest to know just what exactly would go down in the event of the so-called "worst."

I could see the org remaining as a catalog, whereas we would merely provide our own webstorage. I'd personally be in favor of that option, as it would filter out a lot of the crap and people who aren't serious as editors. It'd certainly do a lot to galvanize a lot of the studios as something more than just a pointless brandname (some already pay for their own space). I can see the annoying "Please donate" boxes dropping off for you leeches as well.

Well, if it comes down to that, I think you'd be surprised by the level of dedication that will surface to ensure the future of this site. What do you think?

Well if there aren't any companies or industries opposing the org I think it will remain quite long. To my mind it's a duty of every creator or true fan to donate when he/she earns money. Hey were are talknig about this gigantic community here. I don't think that anybody is interested in loosing all this.

I guess I'd have to drop out then, I'd still try to edit but wouldn't have a platform anymore since I can't afford my own webspace. But actually I think Requiett is right since most people who aren't serious and just upload the 20000th Linkin Ball Z amv would finally vanish. That are my 3 words ...

Exactly, if the worst case sceneario occurs. the org would still be a database of which creators have made which videos, and under our profile we can link to our own webspace, it's just an extra step for people to find our amvs.

Agreed. I miss those times, when you had to scrape by with your own hosting or someone else's who was gracious to lend theirs.

yea, thats probably what i would do... although with places like http://www.savefile.com/ it wouldnt be that hard to make indirect links without hosting...

The org is not going to die. We are talking abouot 3 ARTISTS out of countless thousands. It is not the end of the world. The worst that could happen is that we'd need to find new ways to host our stuff, thats it. We've done it before, and if we need to we'll do it again.

SOAD doesn't know how to read between lines very well.

No one here expects the org to go anytime soon. You're right it is only 3 artists, but we are talking about a plan b for the absolute worst case scenario in which many more artists want their files removed.

Plus the people who've had their video removed already could use a plan b.
