And I would like to know precisely HOW making an AMV is considered a copyright violation?
Unauthorized derivative work.

This isn't hard. Try reading copyright law.

And since the AMV community tries to push their artwork as a whole rather than using it as an under the table way to distribute music, that Sony case would make a viable defense, the reason it didnt win for Napster was because Napster had a direct way to stop the MP3 distribution, which a-m-v.org does not have for instance.
I don't know about you, but when I'm looking for a song to download and I can't find it, I will often times find and AMV using it with a decent audio score, download it and then rip the audio from it.

There are at least 14 off the top of my head that I know I've only downloaded to get the audio off it.

Your not helping matters any by owning up to doing this. Don't you people have any respect to buy the cd when you find an artist you like.

what im saying is very specific and to the point and in most peoples cases probably pointless.

making AMVs and distributing them for critique/entertainment is a nice trendy hobby that keeps most people (specially kids under 18) in their homes using their minds and unique creative insights. Keeping most people out of the drug-ridden, poverty stricken, violent, and discriminatory world we live in... and what really pushes my button is that there are arseholes out there who want to try and take that away.

A: Jobless teenager
B: Live over 2 hours away from ANY CD store
C: Why buy a CD for one song? I've bought CDs from artists that I liked one or two songs from before and ended up hating the other garbage. More often then not the singles artists put out are chosen for a reason.
D: I have a very large, LEGITIMATE CD collection
E: Your statement pretty much can be turned into "why not respect the anime creators and musicians by just buying DVDs and CDs instead of watching AMVs

This thread is going fast nowhere... This issue has been debated to death already as well as presently being debated elsewhere...
