Change the Banners, do we really need two?
Yes, there good to look at and stuff but do we really need two banners? The big AMV insigna and the Advertisment Banners that people have made... we really need the latter? Maybe we could replace it with something more useful... or something.
At first I was thinking maybe thinking of haveing a link to a random vid up there, or maybe a banner premiering a random vid. But I think something like that would be more of a hassle then anything (ie sorting out stuff so nobody abuses the banners that will be seen by lots of people)
Then I thought, why not use the banners for studios (Everyone has something like that right?). Each studio would only need one banner and we could include the AMV insigna with each banner. Thereby making it a hybrid banner for both that studios member(s) and the a-m-v.org. Plus it wouldn't be riddled with the problems that would come with premiering a "video banner each week" as it would be possible to check each banner out for problems before confirming that they could use it.
Although I think that the second choice is the better one, as it would serve both purposes instead of just one. The bad thing about it though is some people that don't know how to make banners, are too lazy to make banners, think banners are for "just a few people" then get angsty over it or people who keep failing at the requirements section for the banners would lose out on this "Extra Publicity" thing.
I'm up for changing the banners and all but what does the community think about that?

I agree with these ideas - it amazes me that people put so much importance into a banner contest.
What I'd do is add the option when you upload a video to attach a banner - it automatically gets added to the rotation. Considering you see a different banner with every refresh, someone randomly surfing the site could come across videos they never knew about.

Clicking the banner automatically takes you to the person's profile who made it, isn't that advertisement enough? You get to see all those person's videos.
I've done this before.

I actually didn't know about this feature till a two days ago. I'm not sure how many other people know of it so I don't see it as good advertising for them. If it displayed the members name/studio on there along with the a-m-v.org insigna I might see it as more meaningful.SQ wrote:Clicking the banner automatically takes you to the person's profile who made it, isn't that advertisement enough? Of course, if they did do that they might have to limit the banner's to one per person/studio to stop people from abuseing that and that might get us some very poor banners... or damn good ones that make sense

Several people i've spoken with seem to be in agreement with the idea that once a number of an individual's banners have been rejected within a certain period of time (and/or with a certain rejection percent) that that creator loses their banner submitting privlages for a while (3 months or so). It may not be what your after, but it's a middle ground that might help...

Well, the ALT text gives the name of the member, but it seems like browsers these days don't display ALT text when you hover over images anymore. Perhaps if it was also made to be TITLE text...Vancore wrote:I actually didn't know about this feature till a two days ago.
