I wish anime music videos was used more for promotion.

In the AMV community.. it always seemed more about sharing your videos with other AMVers, or anime fans at cons.. but when I originally started.. I wanted to attract others to anime.

My main method was mainly to show off the art.. Use emotional provoking Images.. show some of the heart of anime. I use to hear people shit talk about the frame rate, the art and that one gay interpretation that it should only be for kids since it's animation and since that's one of animations main purpose.. is entertainment for kids(lol, I show some people some crazy animation with hentai.. love to see the reactions it's priceless).. I've had comments from people that don't watch anime like "That is f***ing bad ass!!".. if used right, AMVs can be a great promotion to anime....

.... though I know that's what a lot you don't want.. since one of the reasons for liking it is being the minority.. like some people drop liking certain bands because they started to get popular.. or sold out.. some just like to bitch about how stupid people are for liking this band.. liking reality TV.. I think a lot of people like that are biased trying to think your better than everyone else by being the minority.

Anyways... sorry for such a weird topic.. and all.. would like to hear what y'all think of amvs being used in a form of promotion.. please share, I'm quite interested.

I think AMVs can and do portray anime in a way that would attract people to it. They usually depict the high moments in the show, whether those highs are romantic, comedic, or dramatic. Done right, that can make a person think "I wanna see what this is about."

uhh I think AMVs already do that... I used to base alot of my "download" selections off of what AMVs I liked... o.0

I've tried to use it to get an Anime "HATER" to "like anime" or atleast like AMVs by showing her AMVs with music she likes, and she just got all irritable and  lol aparently Precious Moments and anything else with gi-normous eyes freaks her out...

lol, I know what you mean.. that's why when I show someone an AMV who isn't in the know of anime.. I show them stuff like Jin Roh, SAC, Macross Plus, etc.. When people see the clouds and the jets flying in Macross Plus it's something to be awed about.

AMV's were the reason that I got really into anime in the first place. AMV's are already a form of promotion, even if it's not intentional.

Not to sound like an asshole - scratch it, I'll sound like an asshole - I honestly wouldn't consider AMVs art or genuine expression. It's about the same as requesting a song on the radio for someone - except a bit more work is involved.

Your own art, or your own music, and then we can maybe talk...

On topic, if you want to use an AMV as a promotional tool, don't make them for yourself - make them for the people you want to see it. Think "movie trailer". Three minutes, tops, with the most important stuff highlighted - and no story.

"Art", if one can even class AMVs as such, is only part of promotion, at best.
I'm out...
