I'm currently using my first main avatar. I did have another featuring Hiei (YYH), but I only made two posts before lurking for a few months and coming back with this one. It's Vincent (FF7), from what is still the most beautiful dj cover I've seen. I used it because I love the character and the original picture. It also has a soft look that went well with my forum presence at the time, being a self-proclaimed 'greeter'. After a while I switched off in favor of bipolar redheads - Kenshin and Kurama. I use my avatar to reflect my mood.

And my Christmas avatars -

I had the first one for almost an entire day before someone complained about it - then I switched to something more festive. ;p

I've gone through others, but only for a day or two.

I think I had a few random avatars up last year before I placed this one up for christmas:
After I premiered Taijitsu for Dummies I used a small copy of the book cover:
My current icon is for the season. I guess the O RLY owl likes to cosplay...

I got mine from a collection of the best photographs of a magazine during 25 years. Actually it's an extract because the whole picture is about din A2 or so, which's much to big to scan. Actually it shows a cellebration of a south-africain Church. I liked the picture because of the atmosphere, shall mean: Thunderstorm approaching, no faces, just bright white pieces of cloth, mental emptyness and coldness. Furthermore this picture is also my profile pic in order to make it easier for folks to reconsider myself.

Kaoru Nagisa from NGE. I bet no one remembers this one anymore (I haven't used it since 2003).
I've had this one for ages now but originally it was LIES!less. When OT was still around I would sometimes change my avatar up to about 5 times a day if I saw loads of pictures I liked. :¬ /
I'm bored and you're dumb. A match made in heaven.

Alright, Halloween is over in Europe, but meh - time to change avatar.
Hmm...
Yea, going with my pattern of ugly-looking real dudes that are usually also musicians -
This guy's Yuri Shevchuk, the frontman and soul of the legendary Russian rock band DDT, which at the moment would be my second favorite band. His lyrics and vocals are rather distinctive and, in my humble opinion, are a pure touch of genius.
The image itself comes from the ending of their video for the song "Krysa Vesna" (from album "Edinochestvo-1", 2002), which by the way is a very well-made music video showing off a certain bleak athmosphere of inner-city St. Petersburg.
And yea, for those who still don't know, I was indeed born and raised in the above-mentioned Russian city.

Oh yea, some old avatars for show.
I wonder if anyone remembers this one:

This was actually my first-ever avatar on the .org around May 2003. It's a symbol for "Discipline", used as the logo of Robert Fripp's guitar seminar. It's somewhat of a vague stylization of an enneagram.
*****

And this be the second one. That's right, you guessed it. Bob Fripp in the flesh, circa 1973. (Robert Fripp is the leading figure in the musical institution we know as King Crimson [aka. my favorite "band"], and an incredible guitarist who plays the heaviest guitar music I know while sitting on a stool in a dark area of the stage. My forum title is a reference to him).

Noone will ever forget the legendary...

...it'll be back one day, too

The OTers will surely remember this one with a fuzzy feeling...

My famous sig for a while, part of which featuring the King Crimson frontman Adrian Belew was for a long time featured in my avatar. Watch for hidden animation....
******

Kawashima-sensei of KareKano, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Robert Fripp. This was in honour of my "Assumption of Innocence" video which prominently featured this secondary character.
****

Adrian Belew and Trey Gunn of King Crimson.

1) I despise fame, celebrity, and other attention-vampirist activities. And so does Bob.
2) ...random photo that's most likely a reference to King Crimson and/or my high noble lineage (true)

A couple of avatars from "Monster", my favorite anime/manga series
(characters being Director Heinemann, and the serial killer Junkers respectively)

An Uzbek Gasterbeiter in Moscow.
Yes.

A couple of Otohiko-related ones...

Otosaka.
I have a suspiciously similar personality to the character, believe it or not.

Something I put together with an anime-ish avatar-making sort of thingy.
Compare:

(I've since cut my hair, see profile for more info)

And the one from just before,

Bartok the Bat of Anastasia. (see 1st page for detail)

Um....
Too much?
