Where'd Your Avatar (Picture) Come From?

I was just being bored and reading through the forums the other day and began to wonder how everyone chose their avater (the picture next to your name). An AMV you made? Your favorite character? A personal joke? Just something you like to do?

Mine's pretty simple. I've played bass drum for about 8 or so years now, and I wanted to put up something that somehow would describe me. I don't know if it does, but now I'm too lazy to change it.

I think it'd be especially interesting for those people who've kept their avatars the whole time they've been members. Mine's never changed.

My avatar is a crop of the cover of Death's Leprosy record, one of the most important and influential albums in the history of death metal, and metal at large. I built this avatar when I signed up, have not changed it since, and never will; the identification is part of the little bit that I can do to keep Chuck's memory alive.

It has other uses too, besides definitively announcing my musical preference to those who also recognize; it resonates and emphasizes my harsh and contrarian outlook and video catalog, and disturbs the easily disturbed. I once actually got a PM asking me to change it as it made the sender ill; this merely made my day and reinforced my desire to continue inflicting it on the rest of the forum.

Hey Dana,
I've gone through various character portraits over the years, but my current Avatar is the "main page" button I designed for my website a couple years ago. I still like the glyph I came up for this one and the ruby-jewel design carries several meanings for me.

I change my avatar on a whim. Back when I was Sousaphonist, all my avatars had tubas in them. Now that I am badmartialarts, I try to have an element of combat to any of my avatars (my current avatar is part of the steps of "How To Turn Your Hamster Into A Fighting Machine", my other favored avatar is the God of Cookery which exemplifies bad matial arts at it's best).

Actually, mine came from an avatar zip package file of which they're all created by name of Catgirls; that username can be found in the AS forums.

And I do change them seasonally.

Mine's just one of my favorite anime characters, Schuldig from Weiß Kreuz. Nothing particularly significant went into that decision. =/
