Favorite Streamline voice actors!

Post by RamonesFan2020204 » Tue Oct 25, 2005 1:28 pm

If it weren't for Streamline's existance, anime wouldn't be dominating the western market as much as it is today. Carl Macek's a GOD (no matter what anyone says), and Streamline had great voice actors. My favs are:

Greg Snegoff
Michael McConnohie
Kerrigan Mahan
Wendee Lee
Dan Woren
Steve Kramer

I forgot to put Cam Clarke, but I'm not sure if he was in any other Streamline dubs other than the original dub of Akira (I hate that movie)

There are numerous Macross fans (...as well as some Japanese staff, I'm sure), Mospeda fans (...come to think of it, I've not seen any Southern Cross fans...Hell, even the RT people didn't care for that arc, it seems.), and Aura Battler Dunbine fans that'd disagree with that...speaking as someone who'd seen Dunbine before the US release, and was eagerly looking forward to it, only to be treated to a sub-par job, with awful dubbing and HK-caliber subtitles, all under Macek's guidance (for a show he claimed to have much love for, no less)
...I'm going to have to kindly request you slap yourself now and take up a different religion

p.s. OK, I'll accept the defense for Robotech, but again, you'll have to admit, Dunbine was a pretty big fuckup on Macek's part. He can hardly blame any networks, since it was a straight to DVD release, numerous romanizations were badly translated (at one point a list was compiled and mailed to ADV. I'm not sure if they ever made the corrections on later discs or not), I've yet to hear ANY good things said for the dub (the first disc alone was pretty painful, so I stuck to the subs from there on out...wherein I noticed more communications breakdowns with the spelling errors (ex: One of Luft's ships is correctly spelled 'Bull Begger' in the booklets, but the subtitles keep referring to it as 'Blue Vega'...also, the fact Bern Bunning's name seems to change spellings about 3 times in one disc.)

OK...so here we have a man who claims to have great love for this show (... ...even though, in all the interviews I saw, he only spoke of it in very vague details, which leaves me suspicious), with a high-profile studio like ADV (...yeah, not the most prestigious, but it's not exactly like they're stretched for resources or anything), and no restraints from the networks...
...and yet...he still manages to make the release a disaster on almost every point.

That said, some names you missed:

-Beau Billingslea (...dude, how can you miss this guy?)
-David Hayter (still prob. the best dub Lupin I've heard to date)
and
-James Penrod

I treat Carl Macek like he's Marty Scorsese, or any legendary american director. I like him THAT much. Why would I slap myself in the face for something like that? I IDOLIZE him, and I've idolized him since 2001/2002. And when was David Hayter in any Streamline productions?

Stephen Blum(if he counts) did everything from a kid to a nut case.
Beau Billingslea
Wendee Lee
Melissa Fahn
Paul Dobson(only other person with that wickedly evil voice)

You can idolize one of the few men who successfully pissed off Hayao Miyazaki? ... Thou art a more forgiving soul than I
(...and if you don't know what I'm talking about here, methinks you might want to look up 'Warriors of the Wind', Macek's treatment of Nausicaa)

I dunno...I've tried on numerous occasions to forgive him (I'll concede he did a decent job with Megazone 23) but looking back on several of his works...the legal quagmire that caused the Macross-Robotech schism, the slipshod release of Aura Battler Dunbine, the release of Nausicaa which prompted Miyazaki to enforce his NO cuts policy, and seeing the older dub of the Fist of the North Star movie (outside of Tony Oliver as Bart, this dub was pretty weak...I've gotta say, I honestly think Lex Lang proved the better dub for Ken when Manga released the series years later.)...it seems like all this guy has going to his name is nostalgia (it's like the novel 'Waverly' ...the only reason it's assigned at all is because it was the first historical novel...nothing more.)

In regards to Hayter, he was involved in Animaze's dubs for:
Street Fighter II V
Yu Yu Hakusho: The Movie
Gundam 0080: War In the Pocket (tech. a combined production between Animaze and ZRO Limit)
and
Hyper Doll
(Note that he was under the name Sean Barker for these)

Wendee Lee was in a bunch of Streamline productions, but Paul Dobson wasn't. Not sure about the other three though.

Hmm. I'd have to say Steven Blum, Joshua Seth, and the Black Ranger.

Joshua Seth and The Black Ranger weren't in any Streamline dubs.
