Yes.

I don't know why you'd think contributing to charity would change that.
Killjoy. Well, I know you're right based on the definition of selling out, but unlike other things where it's like "omg band wants to pay AMV editor for his work" or "Zarxrax selling tutorial time", this is generally a selfless, fun act that does cool things for people that aren't us :P
Yeah, I'd define selling out as doing something you don't wanna do, like say your a religious person and made to do Bible Black or some really nasty fetish hentai/ Yaoi to some really emo death metal.

This is REALLY close to selling out though lol... it's pimpin by deffinition! S'why it's best to come up with your own ideas.

hey, atleast you werent dared into making an amv... (cough)NBZ....

making an amv for someone else is accually quite a challenge and can be fun, just look at it as a challenge. Can you really do this? i think you can but others may think otherwise.. prove them wrong!

Hmm, this would be similar for an artist who does commisions, except that the money doesn't go into the artists pocket, but to a worth cause.

sounds like a good idea to me... great way for those who want to help a cause but can't (financially challenged), and those who want to make an AMV but can't (technically / intellectually / artistically challenged). Good idea, but I think that only the 'big guns' would make any real donations to said causes - most of us would just bring in the pennies on the dollar of known AMV creators...

I feel that it's "selling out" because it involves transfer of funds for something that is usually done without said transfer. The fact that he supposedly did it for a charity, or that he wants to edit something for someone, has nothing to do with this.

If it becomes the norm, then it would be difficult to call it "selling out". But it is not.

This comes out of a belief (appearently, exclusive to me) that accepting money for AMVs is just bad. Who knows.

Commence with the "stfu pinko" posts.

I covered a bake sale for the earthquake relief fund on the weekend. People payed money to pie some higher ups, have their tarot read, bet on Mortal Kombat challenges, sang karaoke, etc.

You raised money for a "skill" you possess. People do crazy things for charity all the time.

Do you really need justification for this? Or are just trying to boost your ego :P

I'm surprised someone would pay *anyone* $50 to make a video, even if the money was going to charity. But I guess the whole point of the program was to raise money, so whatever.

It's not ego boost that much - I really just want to suggest it as an idea for others to try out at their local cons, is all...
