band looking for AMV

Post by jeanvanhees » Wed Oct 19, 2005 3:40 pm

Hello,

First of all I'd like to say that I really like what you guys do..I've quite some AMV's and they never stop to amaze me..some are even better than the original music video's of the bands.

I am wondering though if there would be interest to do this for a non-professional band like the one I am in.

I am the lead singer of a dutch heavy metal band called 'Eternal Agony'
We recently recorded a little demo and it was really a nice experience that taught us a lot. We are planning though to make a bigger demo in a bigger and better studio within about a year. In the meantime we are working on technique and more songs.

I was wondering if we have some new and nice material recorded..whether there is interest of one of you to create a AMV. Since we are a non-professional band..I am afraid that we aren't able to reward this financially...off course if luck would cross our path and an AMV would help us achieving to become professional...we would be fair and reward this naturally...if we wouldn't..well..use this post and sew us! ;)
This is off course very hypothetical speaking...since a band needs a whole lot of luck to make it...and needs to accidently make the kind of music that people like....so we can only hope

Anyway..a project like this seems really interesting and cool 8-) ...so this is my main motivation.
You can listen to some samples of our first little demo...a lot of work still needs to be done for this band(working on that)...but these samples bring across the general idea of our style

We would be honored and happy to see anyone interested. Anyway, keep up the good work! ;)

your music was interesting and pretty good, but not really my taste, I am sure that you will find someone to snag up your music though :)

good luck!

Plus no stress on "payment" because seriously its an old argument, dont think that any of us would really allow payment for making an AMV

first comprehensive metalhead response!

People, if you like Iced Earth, check out these tracks. The sound is a little derivative at this point, but if you're like me and you left your copy of Burnt Offerings somewhere else when you changed cities/states/continents, this will be just what you need.

to the OP:
Your problem at this point is twofold: first, as others have mentioned, since we don't hold license to the anime titles we use, it's not really possible to use an AMV for professional promotion. Second, your existing tracks are so derivative of older Iced Earth (your old vocalist does the best Barlow I've ever heard from anyone who's not currently in the police in Jersey) that even underground promotion (a la Chastisement vis-a-vis Jesmaster) would not really be effective; as the video got passed around off the .org and onto p2p, someone would mislabel it and it would get attributed to IE.

The bright side of this, though, is that AMV as underground promotion worked spectacularly well for Chastisement, and, as you said, the band is currently developing away from being a clone into something more original. If you record another demo with a more original sound (and better production -- there's a lot of overcompression that shouldn't be in the current tracks given bitrate, and the bass sounds a little loose in the exposed parts), you might look at getting one of the excellent editors in the Netherlands or Nordrhein to try editing an AMV for you, both as underground promotion and a tryout of their skills/style/personality to shoot and cut an original video to include in your press/promo pack.

Best luck, and I hope to hear more from y'all in the future; if it was more likely that I'd be sent to Belgium than China for my next assignment, I'd volunteer my services.

I agree with Kai: Very IE sounding. Still, not bad. I'll wait for some better recordings to say whether or not I can do anything, because these sound a little... yeah. But the next time AMV radio comes around, I'll be sure to request a song or two by you guys.

Also, I want to hear your I Died For You cover. That was one of the highlights from that CD. More complete songs are needed to actually be able to say whether or not I could do anything, as well.

And after you do all that, talk to the admin at www.metalstorm.ee they may be able to hook you up with some advertising on their free monthly compilations.

Just a thought.. You could hook up someone from here to do a music video for you. Does it have to be anime?-)
All you need is good enough video camera and some creative shooting. After that almost any editor that has some experience in AMVs can cook up a nice music video for promotional use.

First of all..thanks for the positive feedback and suggestions. Finally some people that put the criticism at the points were I think it is true...

Actually..it's not our old singer..it's me..I'm still the singer. And however it's a nice compliment to be compared to Barlow..I am working hard to make my own sound. This is however not always as easy as my voice (also bass-baritone as Barlows') just happens to sound a lot like his.

Yet, you are right and I will keep working on this...another studio and more studio time will also give me more freedom I hope to work on the sound of my voice as effect also does a lot for a characteristic sound.
However..it might be even better promotion if an AMV would be mistaked for Iced Earth..more people might look for it...however, I wouldn't want to leech on IE's succes

About the music video: Making a real video scares me a bit. Because I have seen some of semi-professional bands that are really bad..I fear that (like in recording audio) quality=money

I once saw an AMV for VAmpire hunter/Slave to the dark (IE)...after this I really saw the quality..and I got really interested in one day using something like this for us.
Thanks for the tips anyway..I will await further response and look at the local contacts. Thank you all.
