Beyond Rhythm (AWA Pro - Best Dance)

Post by AquaSky » Sun Oct 02, 2005 8:17 am

Hey, folks. My AWA Pro entry is now up - a multi-anime dance video set to "Uwasa no Capoeira" from the video gane Bust A Move. You can grab it here : http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=91145.
This one's a bit different in that I'm doing a simultaneous dual-language release. The one with the original Japanese audio is on local, while the English-language version is available via direct. The audio was cut in a way that the two songs were matched down to the beat, so that the sync was preserved for both versions. I like both, for different reasons, so I decided to go this route.
It's a fun, lighthearted video, with a strong emphasis on internal sync (along with lyric sync, in the English version). I really enjoyed making it, and I hope that you'll enjoy it as well. As always, your thoughts are appreciated.

Disclaimer: This is just one man's opinion. If you don't like or agree with it then ignore it.

I would say that the thing "Beyond Rhythm" lacks is the big idea behind the actual dancing. Nothing wrong with the editing, beat synching and all that with your video, but to me it is a little boring to just watch anime characters dance to a song that doesn't really strive for a high-spirited attitude or otherwise happy atmosphere. Bust-A-Groove's Capoeira's Theme had pretty much the exact same draggish beat thruout the whole video, so there was very little space for flexible or up-beat editing.

A good example of what I'm talking about is AbsoluteDestiny's Do it Right. It sets an idea behind the dancing concept and also has a song that wants to generate positiveness in the listener. It is also very flexible.

I do feel obligated though to mention that the startup scene with the television was nicely thought of. In the end, I would say that "Beyond Rhythm" is a good example of a general dance video. It just needs that something special to raise it above the other good ones.

One of the few videos I actually saw at AWA.

Not that I actually remember anything about it, so it'll be like watching a video for the first time.

That was rather.........odd. It reminded me of Anime Party though so I think I have to be in a giddy mood to enjoy something like this. :|

I'll check out the English-version later.
