I don't download according to originality, and I don't think many people do, even the ones who download solely according to the top 10 list. I did a few searches on that list, searching by 'originality'. Guess what? I think I can safely say - originality does not equal popularity. I can make the most original yaoi vid in the world, and that won't make the fanboys come anywhere near it.
Either way, I've never worry about whether or not a vid will be original. I just take it for granted that it will be. It's the one category I never concern myself over - because I'm lazy, and I won't make a video if there's already one made for me to watch. Sometimes I miss vids and have a reviewer point them out, or I'm just not satisfied with the existing vids for that idea. In cases like that, my originality will be lower. But still, that doesn't have any weight on whether or not I make the vid.
Assuming people *do* download according to originality -
If this is true, and you want downloads, then make something original. You can't make people stop downloading for the reasons they're downloading - even if you get rid of the originality score, those people who consider dbz and ff8 unoriginal won't download your video once they see the anime used. Maybe you can get rid of the info on the vid description that tells what anime is used, but then what would they download according to? You can't get rid of everything just because your scores or sources aren't what people want to see when they decide which vid to download. Either you cater to them by avoiding the 'unoriginal' sources, those things that get you low scores, or you find a way to make vids without caring if a section of viewers avoid you.
When it comes to the 'most used anime' list, not everyone avoids those vids because they're unoriginal. A lot of people avoid them because they just flat-out don't like the anime. The 'opinion exchange' was brought up, how some people put "no vids using this/that anime". I've done exchanges where I list anime I won't accept vids for (usually Love Hina and the Kenshin ovas). I don't avoid those sources because they're unoriginal. I avoid them because I hate those anime. I avoid vids that use certain songs only if I hate those songs. Sure, if an anime is so over-used some viewers start to hate that anime, then you can blame the 'unoriginality'. But it's still the anime. I don't care how many dbz or yyh vids I watch - the sources are unoriginal by themselves, but I still like the anime, so I continue to watch vids using them.
I want to say that instead of trying to get rid of the scores that don't lean in your favor, you should make those scores work for you by making original vids. For popular anime, the way to make the vid get high originality scores is to make a vid people like. A vid people enjoy, for an anime like dbz, is a rare video - hence, it's an original video. Those Naruto vids on the top 10 are original because so many people like them. Out of all the naruto vids on this site, there aren't many that everyone likes. So the vids people do like are automatically rare and original. If you want to use an anime that's overused, and still get those high originality marks, just make a vid everyone likes - then it will stand out from the crowd and be original.
I don't get the people who try so hard to be the best on this site. If you see this as art, and it hurts you that you feel afraid to make your art because the viewers won't give it a chance, then why would you put your art out there? Starving artists - no appreciation till after you die (or disappear and become a legend). I consider art something that goes against the mold, stands out from the rest. The fact that the artists in this thread are complaining about their own lack of originality is funny. Art is by its very nature original. Either accept that your work is not original and is just an amv you and your friends like to watch, or assume that like most living artists your genius is not recognized by the masses because they can't see what an artist sees.
You can't make people love your work without giving them what they want (whether intentional or by coincidence). Getting rid of the originality score and trying to make them love things according to a different standard won't do the trick. You can't change the viewers, you can only change yourself and your work.
