  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Since this thread got bumped I'm going to squeeze in a few more comments before it's gone.

I've tried to do some research, but Manson is a man who loves hidden/double meanings so forming a coherent understanding is difficult. What I have concluded is that the story is far more specific/concrete in terms of characters then I imagined and far less concrete in terms of chronology/timeline. For a good place to start, look here. What is clear is that unlike many vids that claim to be story based, this one contains a story that is not unlike a book or movie. Many Manson fans have likened the Triptych to watching epic films such as Lord of the Rings.

What strikes me the most about this video is the flow. |It's just so damn smooth that you can't help getting drawn into it. The editing is clean and professional, the transitions flawless. If you look closely, many of the sections are filled with effects, but they are so well integrated that you hardly even notice them. Effects and transitions play an especially vital role in CI P2 (Lain), where the visuals are nearly indistinct from each other, not so much transitioning as evolving. Effects also play a vital role in reducing the association of the clips to the anime, which is crucial for a video that tries to tell an independent story. Various amounts of noise are used to great effect in many of the sections, further widening that gap. Finally the use of characters from different anime to represent a single character is what makes this especially unique. I had developed a similar idea for a epic storytelling vid (ProjecKt Life), but I discarded that particular approach as being unworkable. This vid, however pulls it off beautifully. And Beowulf wasn’t kidding about different editing styles, the sheer variety of effects, source, music, and editing makes this a breeze to watch over and over.

Still working on the op, but one thing is clear: This will be the first video EVER to receive a straight ten score from me.

N’uff said.

I can difficulty add something more, but I really wanted to quote this post, since this is exactly the same thoughts I have about this creation, Pen Pen is been able to express them perfectly unlike me that I don't possess a so much skilled english. Fully understand this video is something that will take at least the same time Beowulf edited on it. Look.. This video is NOT an AnimeMusicVideo as the mass know them, and this is exactly My idea of an Amv, a creation that go over the synch and the music, that go even far deeper of a storyline. Something I'm been never able to see until Now. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME, to describe Everything I Feel about this Video, I'm wordless because of my little dictionary, but.. This video will get my op too. And insted of the 1st, it will be the 3rd getting a complete 10 score.

I feel compelled to say something about this video, as it is not only a HypeO video but also the most amazing video, both in concept and exicution I have ever seen, but I don' feel I can say anything that hasn't already been said.

This is truely a work of art. It is truely unique on all fronts, and is an absolute joy to watch. Nothing more needs to be said (though I personaly am thrilled to see so many people taking that extra effort to understand what the video and story were trying to convay, as this video does ask far more from it's audience than any others that I have seen by a staggering margin).

Please also understand that I am not saying any of this simply because I am the other half of HypeO, nor am I saying this because Bayo is my brother.
My opinion of this video wouldn't change one ounce under any circumstance.

Congrats Julian. This vid is amazing, and Im stilll watching it daily even after I personaly saw (and heard :? ) this thing being made for the better part of two years, and it still amazes me.

(now if we could only get you a damn job... )

Alright, I got to it. Watched it once.

Put on your helmets. This is gonna be the most unreserved and scathing response I ever gave to a video...

***

I pretty much 100% anticipated my reaction to watching it for the first time, because it follows the pattern of all Hypeo videos to daye: I did not like it. This doesn't mean that I didn't care for it. This doesn't mean there were moments I didn't say "awesome"/sick. But I did not like it.

There's much to be said for the editing. One thing to say is that 6 times out of 10, until I watch it a few more times, I won't understand what you're doing. I do understand what you're doing the other 4 times out of 10, and that hovers between liking and strongly disliking it. (this will change when the other 6 parts kick in).
One thing I'm sure of is that YOU knew what you were doing here at least 9 times out of 10.

Musically, again, I hovered between 'awesome' and 'shit' sometimes; I get Manson and have no qualms about his ideas, but I have very much mixed feelings about the musical side of it all. I can't deny that the athmosphere and cohesion held though. Ever did it hold. Audio mixing was top notch in all senses. You wouldn't for one second say that what you watched was a loose arrangement of gore and screaming. No, this was an elaborately orchestrated set.

I liked the text bits. I did not like their use 8 times out of 10. That's it, really. I'm probably in no position to be bitching about using too much text, and I still will. I think there may have been better ways to handle the storytelling in places, even by making it less obstructive. It's really an attention-sucker that seemed to draw me away from the basic visuals and disengaged more instinctive parts of my brain in favour of more analytical ones, at a time when I should probably be scared shitless at a very base level. This is why I mostly wasn't.

In terms of the segments, I don't want to look at them individually except the North Star/NTHT. That segment can almost stand on its' own. That segment really looks like ass in terms of the art mixing, and most people will say and already have said "what the fuck is this" when they saw it.
This is why, not for a second, do I doubt that the segment is gold. That one hit the nail on the head. I'm not sure why, and I won't know for a bit, but that segment is really the highlight conceptually within something that's already conceptually out-of-here.
I utterly hated when you switched to Berserk from more modernistic imagery. That was far more an irritation to me than the differences between NTHT/Fist of the North Star. You lost me there, visually and thematically, for a few seconds. All that connected was gore, and I nearly stopped the video because I was afraid that midway through, you were about to let me down and just slip into gore for gore's sake, mindless violence as a means for itself - but you didn't. It took me a bit to restore the 'immersion', but when I did, the Berserk section itself pulled through and ended up being every bit as good and thematically-appropriate as the others.

Technically and conceptually, I knew that this was always a possibility, but a distant one. No longer. Many others are still out there, and I hope you go for some of them. Another creative barrier falls.

This video is ugly. This video is hateful and cold, and there's something in it that I don't really get. This video is overwhelming and the imagery is often unacceptable. This video can be and is ugly.

Just like truth.

This is what this video is, artistically.
You can connect the dots yourself from there.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

(PS - I should qualify that this pattern so far has been not liking the video at first, and then absolutely digging it later, after watching it a half-dozen or so times. :) )

Great job, My impresions of the video reflect most of what was said before, and I don't really think its necesary to repeat them. But, have you considered compressing this with H.264 to under a 100 mbs and uploading it to the org? The codec is a pain to make work, but the latest FFDShow has at least decoding capabilities, and the quality compared to size is very impressive.

Thanks for the comments Orwell.

A low quality version is in the works. I'm currently learning all sorts of stuff about H.264 and the best most experimental compression stuff out there. A PM to trythil is inevitable at this rate

soultaker lain and north star are beyond amazing. Like other people may be thinking, I'm not a big fan of where the key idol part is placed. I was hoping for a really powerful ending of intense action. But I guess your credits are really cool as well.Hopefully this is not your peak :D
