How do you get into the to 10%

Post by ssjvackar » Tue Sep 13, 2005 8:11 am

I was looking through the top ten percent of the videos and it says that you need at least 7 votes to get in. Anyone know what that means?

It means your video has to have at least 7 opinions/reviews of it. Each opinion/review given counts as a vote, and if the scores are high enough (it's weighted such that if you have two videos with the exact same opinion average, the video with more opinions will be higher ranked- the formula is on the page, I believe) the video makes the list.

I've been wondering about that list myself. The "vote" thing I believe means the vid must have at least 7 opinions to be qualified. As for the rest...
Qualified = count(opinions) > 7

compscore = sum(avg(nonNULL(opinion.category))/count(avg(nonNULL(opinion.category)) except Overall and Re-view

Note: The top and bottom 10% scores are removed from the average calculation (also known as the "Olympic Average")

score = Bayesian Average(avg(compscore+overall+review))

Bayesian Average = (v ÷ (v + m)) × R + (m ÷ (v + m)) × C

where:
R = average for the video (mean) = (old score)
v = number of votes for the video = (votes)
m = minimum votes required to be listed in the top 10% (7)
C = the mean score across all videos (average all vids)
Does anybody know what this means? Could someone explain it with words instead of formulas?

Put simply, as I understand it (and somewhat explained above)- the highest and lowest scores are dropped, and then the final score is weighted such that the more opinions you have for a given average score, the higher ranked the video will be. So, for example, if a video just hit the 7 opinions requirement and happened to end up with an average the same as say, Doki's "Right Now" video, which has several hundred opinions- "Right Now" is going to be decidedly higher ranked.

It was, I believe, put into place to more fairly reflect the popularity of the videos, and to make it harder for people to get 6 or 7 of their friends (or make 6 or 7 duplicate accounts...) and give their video all 10's and then end up at the top of the Top 10 list. This way, videos that have gotten high scores more consistently and over a large number of opinions and, as such, truly are the top videos (especially over time), are ranked higher.

Qualified = count(opinions) > 7
I think that means that a video must have 8 opinions to be qualified and not 7.

Go to op exchanges and check out the average given score of someone offering exchanges before you do it. If they have above a 9.5 average given in every catagory go for it, if they have lower just keep on looking. I haven't actually tried this but I'm fairly sure in a week or two at most you'd be on the top 10 list. It helps alot if you use Naruto or FMA for your source and toss in tons of pointless effects, just FYI.
