Azulmagia is BACK and has made his First AMV! (Gasp!)

Post by azulmagia » Sun Sep 11, 2005 12:22 am

I can't express how effing HAPPY I am to be back on the Org! I ain't going to bother you with any details about why I was absent for so long....go to Demonseal for that kind of information. :? What matters is I am back and I have finally made my first AMV ! :o Yes, it it a Wedding Peach AMV, but I happen to like Wedding Peach...so there.

All right, so this is my very first attempt at an AMV...so go easy on me. The actual editing was kinda fun, which wasn't what I was expecting. The AMV is not perfect, but you have to start somewhere, and set up challenges for oneself. The anime was selected because I had just gotten the DVD of Wedding Peach volume 2 and wanted to use it for my first AMV, since there is a distinct lack of Wedding Peach AMVs out there, indeed I daresay it could well be the best Wedding Peach AMV hitherto made, even given its manifest shortcomings. If only for the fact that a lot of people don't seem to like Wedding Peach... :( The music was selected because...well, because I don't have a very large library of CDs. (Hell, it's so limited I'm considering using a classical CD I got in a friggin' cereal box for a prospective project.) I decided to go with the song that I considered the LEAST appropriate given the nature of the anime, and mix a little comedy, although it's mostly intended to be a straightforward action video.

Personally, I think the video came out, visually, and in terms of editing, about 150% better than I expected for my first video...and about 80% thanwhat I had originally intended. The planning for clip selection was about half premeditated, half on the fly, with a number of decisions about such being subject to rapid fluctuations. I started to run out of ideas (not to mention hard drive space) as the song made its instrumental closure, so I just decided to do nothing fancy and add some pretty basic scenes (Yes, I am aware that having the Love Angels happily drink milk after being depicted kneeling before Limone is a double entendre).

I am reasonably satisfied with the way the action sequences worked out.Wherever possible, I used scenes that generally matched the lyrics. A number of scenes were worked in simply because they looked cool, like the henshins and Wedding Peach firing the Saint Grenade Launcher.

The main weakness, in my opinion, of the AMV is the lip-synching sequences. Clearly that editing skill is going to take some work for future presentations. Hinagiku's synch in the first chorus came out almost exactly as planned, but not the others. Jama-P's lip-synching went through a number of changes. The first edit, horror of horrors, his mouth was just HANGING OPEN like Kimura's from Azumanga Daioh... :? It's pretty much as fixed as it's going to get considering my flawed methodology. The lip-synch occuring between the three Love Angels at about 0:01:30 in the video is complete fortuity. I've also noticed that the video sometimes starts a fraction of a second before it's supposed to, but I'm not 100% sure it's the AMV itself.

So download and enjoy. :)

Wow, and it's not even the 80 MB standard for 3.5 minute videos! For that alone I'll give you a shot. But, in all seriousness, give me a few days but I'll give the video a look. And, as forewarning, do you want a full, honest critique or a short, simple review of the video?

Full honest critique of course. I mean, how is a craftman supposed to rectify his errors if he don't know what they are?

[/rhetorical question]

Well, some people really don't want an outsider's view of their video. I'll leave a full-fledged review within the next three days, depending on when my dial-up decides to finish it. It's nice to see you active.

What a weird video. And that's coming from me

Definitely somewhere in a... different territory. Don't know what compelled you to do this, but I ain't complaining.

On the plus side, the weirdness... the girls... the puns

On the minus side... the main complaint would be lip-sync or frequent lack thereof (which is equally problematic in several avoidable lip-flap sequences); and I guess a sort of lack of any apparent resolution - at least it kinda seemed like the video just ended when things started dragging out.

All in all though, definitely a worthwhile and creative first effort. And I wasn't expecting it to be so weird, heh :)
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

The weird part was wholly intentional. Weird makes for good humour. Like I said above, there are a distinct lack of Wedding Peach AMVs out there, particularly decent ones.

As for the lip-synch... I was pretty much on my own, so I had to figure out a methodology... which, as it turned out, had iffy results. It'll be a while before I do that again... I have a couple of ideas for new projects but neither of 'em involve lip-synching. My original AMV plan was to make "Projeckt Wizeguyz", (song and artist secret for now) but that involves lip-synchage, so it is kind of on the back burner.
