AWA FTP LINE [2005]

Post by MCWagner » Fri Aug 26, 2005 8:22 am

It appears that everyone has waited till the last minute for the FTP option this year. Our FTP server is currently running at full capacity uploading submissions, and Wayne is still getting 25-30 requests for new accounts a day.

If you got your request in before the deadline, then it will be honored. We just have to wait for some room to clear on the server before we can issue your account.

When everyone who requested an account has been issued one, we'll make a post here to that effect, so that anyone who slipped through the cracks can speak up ASAP. Watch here or on the AWA boards for the announcement. Until then, everyone please be patient.

I uploaded one last week. When will we receive confirmation that it was successful?

Possibly when everyone is uploaded and checked. If you uploaded it last week (and thanks for doing it in advance) and you haven't heard from us, then it's probably fine. Wayne's checking the files as he goes, and only contacting people when there's something wrong.

Thanks. Yeah, I envisioned something like this happening if I procrastinated any longer.

What equipment/method is he using the check the files, out of curiosity? For my Pro video, he emailed me and told me that my video didn't play properly. I told him I'd upload a new copy that night. Well, I forgot to do it, but the next day he sent me an email saying the "new copy" played fine. Does he have multiple setups he's using or something?
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

He has a number of different systems he checks it on. I could guess at their specs, but I'd only be guessing.

I sent an email a few months ago about downloading Grand Stream from my website. This was before the ftp was set up. Didn't get a reply at all.. Then I sent another email a few days ago with the same url for downloading the convention version again. Still no reply to my email. Just wondering if you guys got it yet... :(

I host the convention version just for that, for conventions.
Haven't had any complaints or problems with the file.

<looks at watch - looks at computer screen while exporting project for the 4th time in as many days>

hmmm... should hurry up, shouldn't I?

good luck to you all!

OK, wait... are you requesting that we download the video from your site rather than you uploading it to our FTP? Honestly, it really is preferable that you do the uploading to the FTP. That way it fits into the lineup along with everyone else, and you include the required text file with the details of your entry, and you take responsibility for making sure that the complete file, in the right format, gets uploaded. The FTP was put there specifically to standardize the way we get everyone's files so they can go through all the checks and confirmations to make sure everything works. It also works as a bottleneck that gets everyone in a nice orderly line. If you start looking to make exceptions and recieving a handful of videos in different ways, it's almost certain that they'll get lost in the crush since they didn't come in the door in the standard way.

Seriously, everyone please follow the instructions printed in the rules. We'll do our best to accomodate everyone, but this simple technique really helps.

(And I know what I'm talking about... because at AWA 8 I was entirely left off the pro tape until the last minute because I DROVE over to give Quu my video instead of MAILING it. It got put in a different pile and completely forgotten about.)

I am getting really annoyed by the way this site hyperlinks automatically if you type the letters FTP. Those aren't links to the FTP site, please look up the address at awa-con.com
