Technically it's not against the "rules"...but it is highly frowned upon...Sorkuri wrote:is it against the rules to use clips from other people's amv's in your own amv?... not stealing the amv but just using clips
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

But it's taboo. Possibly to the point of being banned.
I suppose you can do it anyway, though, if you like instigating forum flame-fests.

at the absolute very least, supply your source in the creator comments once you upload it. For the record, such video's don't score well.
AMVs that I have made:
Berserk - The Fight Must Go On - Drama, Action, Violent, Story
Teenage Cowboy Bebop Turtles(TCBT) - Fun, Trailer, Parody

Should be easy if I wanna steal clips from "On your mark".Scintilla wrote:If you really want to do it, I suggest you get permission from whoever made the AMV first. A lot of people don't seem to like it when their edits are swiped without their having been contacted about it.

If you don't upload them, it doesn't really matter. You could put naked pictures of your mom in them.
What makes a video "yours'' has been a topic of fairly contentious debate on this site for a while. If you are just looking for footage, I'm sure you could find it elsewhere *cough* downloads *cough*, if it's certain effects, then you are likely to run into a lot more friction. Think about it, if something is hard for you to do, or to learn to do; it was probably hard for the person that made the video you are using as well. What you are taking from them isn't clips, but 'effort' and 'time' that they spent learning how to do it. It's like when you work, and some random guy on the street gets a cut of your paycheck.
To answer your question: people will hate you for it.

Build a man a fire, and he will be warm for a night. Set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.
