Time spent editing?

Post by DarkNinja75 » Sat Aug 20, 2005 8:01 pm

I'm just curious as to how long other editors spend a day working on their videos. Personally, I may work on it for just 30 minutes to tweak it, or I'll spend a good 4 hours trying to progress it further while being forced to deal with the inevitable crashes and errors. And then what's the average amount of time it'll take you to finish an entire video? My time varies from a single week to 4 months. I'm simply wondering this because I noticed when I wasn't editing, I became really bored really fast.

i spend a few hours ripping and preping my footage. anywhere from 10-40 hours actually editing which includes tweaking. then a few hours encoding.

all that happens over the corse of a day or a few months... depends on the project and what else is going on in life.

For a simple vid with a long anime (50+ episodes), I average two weeks, getting 5-6 hrs per day and 30-48 hrs on the weekends. The first week is usually spent ripping, and the last weekend on combing for glitches an encoding. So, usually a week of editing if I have the weekends free.

If I already have the footage ripped, or if it's a short anime, I can make a vid in a day (20hrs), preferably a Saturday.

For a complicated vid, my record is over 3 months. I stopped paying attention to the hours because it would have been depressing.

I don't like leaving a video alone, so I tend to work on it during all my free time till it's finished. If I walk away for a while, I'm more likely to delete the entire thing when I get back and start a new project. I have a very short attention span, so when inspiration hits I wallow in it for fear of taking a breath and jumping to a different idea. >.>

I used to just spend like 1-2 hours a day editing.

For the current project I'm working on, I've been working nonstop on it for 2 weeks EVERY DAY for at least 8-12 hours a day and I'm barely past the halfway point. I'm BEYOND ahead of schedule for the type of video this is....

Let's just say I have the determination to get it finished since things in my life are gonna get a bit crazier in the next few months and I wanna spend the time I have now working on it. Plus it's alot of fun to work on. :D

Depends on the video. Some of mine have taken 120+ hours at several hours a day. Some of mine have been done in under one day. Just depends on how much I need to do to it and how much I care about getting it 'perfect'.

Sometimes a couple of days of frenzied editing and hours worth of work a day, other times weeks of an hour or so a day.

Either nothing at all (much more common), or 2-3 hours. If I'm coming up on a deadline I really want to make, then maybe more than that.

Depends on if I've got a deadline to make. If that's the case, I can edit for 4-5 hours a day (or more, if I'm running down to the wire). Leisurely editing though, I'll only usually do a few times a week when the mood strikes, for a couple hours. Most of my newer vids have taken about 100 hours to complete, give or take a bit. I find it better to tweak them until I'm satisfied than to leave them be and notice those flaws when I rewatch the video later on.
