Looking for Character for TL style video

I need some suggestions for a character for a "Trancending Love" style video (characters cut out from their background frame by frame and inserted into other animes/original backgrounds.)

The working title for the video is "Lonely Dreamer" and it is about a young boy who is depressed and constantly daydreaming. At the end he escapes into the world of his dreams ("Castle in the Sky").

|I need a character who has scenes both sad and happy. The best I have right now is Naota from FLCL, but I am having concerns about having sufficient footage for the happy ending.

If you have any ideas I would greatly appreciate hearing them.

Hmm...think, think, think...

Shuji from Saikano might just work for that. The "young boy" part is debatable, but he does have an array of happy and sad moments.

You said that this was based off of TL. Is this also a romance video?

In any case, I'll keep thinking about it.
