Yeah, I think John Lennon sets the record. I mean damn they tried to deport him for having an opinion.

The Clash and Rage Against the Machine rank pretty high as well.

Kai Stromler wrote:"Most political musician" is kind of difficult, not only because "musician" is a very difficult term. John Ashcroft and Orrin Hatch are both recording artists, but they both suck (music as well as politics), and it's not their main job.

Google 'ashcroft "when the eagle soars"', or watch Fahrenheit 9-11 again. He wrote, performs, and recorded this song, which is schmaltzier than Lawrence Welk and makes Toby Keith go, "c'mon, there's patriotism, and then there's being just a lunatic".

The old folk's home polka bands of the world are very offended at your comment, and want to make sure you know that they are way cooler than that.

On political bands i'd have to include Sick Of It All too, songs like District, Injustice System, World Full of Hate and Potential for a Fall.

Also another good one (although slightly politically incorrect) would be The Anti-Nowhere League. In the 80 they were really big in england, and their first album was banned by the government during their days.

When any government banns a game, movie, or music it is like a little kid plugging their ears for something they don't want to hear.

It is one thing not to buy the album or to warn others not to, but it is something else to force people to live as you want them to live.

Though, I still think John Lennon gets the prize for almost being deported for his music.

i'd have to say the band that comes to my mind is CRASS. i dont think they ever wrote one un-political song ever. their politics can be sumed up as hippy vegan anarchy. they staged alot of protests against the balkcans war (or something) and ranted about margret thatcher. their music is kinda an aquired taste.

I'm not sure if anyone has said already but I think that Bob Geldof should rank highly.
I'm bored and you're dumb. A match made in heaven.

Well John Lennon, a name that would'nt have popped into my head right away but is indeed one of the most political musicians there ever was.

I'd probably put Jello Biafra (dead kennedys, LARD) up high on that list as well, not only because of his songs, but his spoken word career, He ran for mayor of San Fransisco. He defended himself and fought for his constitutional rights. my buddies who went to the Anti-Globilization protest in Montreal got to meet him....I wish I went.
