WHY THE HELL IS EVERYBODY SO RICH?. Sorry about that, I just don't see how you all have so much money. In 2 months, I am going to buy a $400 desktop because thats all I can afford.

Dude, I have a job but I don't get paid enough to afford a $1000 computer.

That's ok Dokool I don't need a serious video editing machine at the moment. Just something to play with. When I want a serious editing machine I'll get a G5 Mac desktop with final cut pro. Right now I'm just looking for something fun and mobile :) thanks for the advice though I know you're right about that.

I think I'm starting to lean towards getting an HP ZD8000 on ebay for around $1700 (gonna have to use credit card hehe) which includes...

80GB HD at 5400 RPMs
1 GB ram
256 Radeon X600 card
Media center 2005 (Helps with editing for sure, and I can also record any animes on Tv for AMV's)
17" brightview (HDTV) screen
Full keyboard with Num pad (good for the MMORPG I play)
free integrated wireless w/ bluetooth (don't have anything with bluetooth but it's a nice status symbol *laughs*)
it's a refurb and comes with a 3 month warranty. (don't mind if it has a few scratches... gonna happen sooner or later anyway hehe)

Anyone have something better I can get for around the same price? I'm open to anything anyone has to suggest... even an ASUS :D

Also I'm looking to get an extra car/power cell battery for my car so I can charge/use my laptop in my car without killing my own car battery. Anyone use something like that?

Oh yeah and are those centrinos powerful enough to run half life 2 with only 1.7 Ghz?

They should be - VoodooPC markets gaming laptops built on the Centrino platform.

Also, why bother getting a G5 if Apple is starting the Intel switchover next year?

Gateway laptops aren't known for reliability.
"If someone feels the need to 'express' himself or herself with a huge graphical 'singature' that has nothing to do with anything, that person should reevaluate his or her reasons for needing said form of expression, possibly with the help of a licensed mental health practitioner."

I was in a Best Buy yesterday that had about a dozen demo and returned laptops on sale. Prices - even discounted - were so-so, but they were offering another 10% cut just to move them.

This will vary from store to store, but if one BB is clearing out old models, probably the rest of them are doing the same.

Buying demos can work well (I've done it on more than one occasion), but you need to push the sales people. There is almost always some part or parts missing, and I wouldn't buy an XP machine without the backup discs. Sometimes you can extract more of a price cut in exchange for the missing stuff.
