If you wish to send DVD media, send four Dual Layer + or - DVD-R's (1 Extra for backup). The media can be DVD+R or DVD-R as we are using dual format burners. The media MUST be 4X compatible, faster is acceptable, but slower is not.
Are they "Dual Layer" ?Scintilla wrote:I picked up a 10-pack of <s>Parabolic</s> Panasonic 4x DVD-Rs at the Best Buy here in Pittsburgh just the other week...
Dual Layer DVD-R discs available at 4X speeds:

Here are links to two large e-tailers that indicate 2.4X is the only speed available for Double Layer DVD+R.

I had a VERY hard time finding 4X media too. Fortunately there was one online store in the country that sold them. >_>doughboy wrote:Sooooo, if anyone knows... where in-store can I find 4X DL discs for this?
I've looked all over and all I see is 2.4X, sure there's 4X media I could get online, but I'd much rather pick it up in person somewhere.

WTF?
I don't wanna spend over $20 on dual layers just to enter this contest! Last year 4 single layer dvds were fine. I won't be able to afford dual layers in time. I HIGHLY doubt the pro contest will be 16 hours long. You're gonna be killing off over half of the people submitting since dual layers are still expensive.
PLEASE tell me you guys are accepting single layers. I'll even send 8 if I have to!

That doesn't make any sense. I don't see the content being mastered for BOTH dual-layer discs (~4 hours) and single-layer discs (~2 hours). You'd be mastering for BOTH formats, depending upon what people send? Err...Echuir wrote:You can send us DVD-R you just have to send more.
And I certainly don't see the contest getting close to 16 hours worth of videos (approximately 4 discs times ~4 hours per disc). In the years that I've submitted (2002-2004), it's never exceeded three 2-hours tapes/DVDs. It's highly unlikely that Pro will amazingly and suddenly receive a more than 200% increase in submissions, especially where it's only limited to one entry per person, these days.
Four single-layer discs, which will probably hold under 2 hours per disc. It's ridiculously unlikely that there's a need for anything beyond that. I mean, especially considering the price and NON-compatibility with general set-top players when using consumer-brand dual-layer DVDs...
