Are AMV's a lot more tedious to make now?

I don't see a problem here. Whole months' worth of more enjoyment.

I'm just finding the whole audio scrubbing process tedious. I'm finding it harder to hear out beats, and parts of the music dont even show up while scrubbing, so timing is getting harder for me to pull off.

I'm gonna purchase a copy of Premiere Pro 1.5, and see how I got with that.

Two word's Hell yes.

Half the time now I find myself having to force myself to finish an amv let alone start one, just because I know no matter what I do someone is going to say "Hey I've seen better, and *Bleep* was a lot more flashy n shit than yours", to be honest I don't really care for that, however I wont be forgetting it anytime soon.
I remember the old days (98,99) the first videos I created back then using two videos and every man and their dog's jaw was dropped to the floor that was a good feeling.

Don’t get me wrong I understand that with today's opportunities to create videos with 1,000,001 effects and making it look much better than the old days, but I think most people have begun to 'expect' too much out of creators these days and when they can't live up to the standards that only a handful have been able accomplish, we get chastised to hell and back about it. That is an obvious major turn off..

Ditto. It's all worth it though if you find yourself grinding over the video every night in a single week/weekend, regardless of if you even finish. I get this addiction every now and then, but it sadly doesn't last unless the video goes better than planned. I burn out a lot.

If you want a fancy-pants video with effects and such, of course it's gonna take longer! But not everyone wants to.

I, for one, hate the technical side of editing. I would always much rather spend as little time as possible editing a video. Which I have, and do - but within reasonable limits of course.

That said though, I do find myself spending a bit more time on videos, but mostly due to either 1) Having beta feedback from others which compels me to revise 2) Recently making an overly-long video.

My very first video wasn't very technically advanced, and I spent well over 70 hours on it.

My current video will have taken about 5 hours to complete, and it's very technically advanced.

Good, highly-technical videos do not require obscene amounts of time, if an editor knows how to effectively make them.

I agree with this but I'm not sure if it's a good thing or not. On one hand it means that the overall quality of AMV's have gone up (in very general terms of course, comparing now with 6 or 7 years ago.) This is great for the veiwer, who gets to see a ton of truely excelent videos. And the incresed pressure provides a reason for people to take months on a video.

However, for the creator it is now very hard for the average person to "make the grade" which can be discouraging. In other words the average creator's videos are below average (in case you think I'm being condecending, I count myself in this group.)

The biggest problem though, is that it stops many AMV's from being made. I have given up on a lot of ideas because they would be only good, and not spectacular.

I don't think the actual video editing has gotten more tedious- but I think that the amount of prep and post-production work that is sometimes required now that an extremely high quality of footage is expected in videos does add a lot of time and tedium to the overall production.

I agree with IcyCloud with the comment of how amv is just "time-consuming and labor-intensive". How long can a person spend making an amv is the more interesting question to which I think I have the record of two years and still going.
