Has anyone entertained the idea of a "Versus" AMV
I've had this idea for a while, but I can't remember if I've brought it up on the forums before. I did a search which didn't get much, and since my memory's spotty, if I have brought this up, then it didn't generate much conversation.
It would be a specific type of MEP with three (or possibly more) editors involved. Two of the editors each make an AMV using the same audio source, but other than that, it's completely independent. Then, when their videos are finished, they send them over to the third editor, who then "weaves" them together into one "versus" video (can you tell I listen to too much trance?).
Of course, it should remind people of Iron Chef contests, but the difference is that there's no time limit (yeah, a bad thing in some ways, I realize) and the point isn't on-the-spot editing so much as synthesis of two completely different videos. I can already see a pitfall of certain genres not being suited for this (how do you make a romance video when you know another video is going to be constantly interrupting yours?), but I still think it's an idea worth at least discussing.
Thoughts? Realistic idea? Complete garbage?

Do you expect the outcome to be something like Scintilla's Dueling Videos: Under Ice? I know this has the added feature of being 2 songs (well; more like 1.5), but the general multiple song feature might work as well.
The way you were thinking about going about this is interesting. It definately might work in more of a studio setting for starters. I, for one, would be interested in how something like this might work. You should get some people together and try it out.
An idea that may be more workable would be a dueling song remix that features two clear editing sections. more of a colaborative project than a competitive one. Although, if you know any decent DJs or editors that think they're up to it, 2 complete videos could also be mixed (both audio and video) after their completion for the same (or even a more dramatic) effect.

It's sort of like Scintilla's Under Ice video, but not quite. I'll admit, I got the idea from The Stark Effect and numerous faceless electronica DJs who take two different songs and blend them into one. Thus, the idea of taking two different AMVs and blending them into one, but rather than deal with issues such as permission and recompression, just have everyone collaborate from the start.
The idea was never meant to be "competitive" in the first place; I just called it a "Versus" video because you always see songs labeled as "Darude vs Robert Miles" or whatever. The nature of it should be collaborative, as I don't really believe in competitive AMVs in the first place.
I think I'll go check out that Into the Fire video right now just to see what happened.
And Children of the Sandstorm makes me cry, just because it has anything to do with that travesty which shall not be named.

Also, regarding Bashar's idea of using a dueling song in the first place:
While that's not a bad idea, I don't like it quite as much. In my mind, the idea is to show two different interpretations of the same audio simultaneously, and using the duelling audio with two clearly different editing sections is going to get you...well, it's going to get you Scintilla's Stark Effect video.

Meri and I have always wanted to do a VS video :D. Not sure in what context or any of the logistics, but it would just be funny.
