I tried that in the past. IT'S TOO COMPLICATED....

If that's too complicated for you, you shouldn't even be here then. Cause all it takes is at least 1 click of the mouse button once you have the ripping program up.

Right, because running the signal from the DVD player through a device (e.g. old VCR, time base corrector, ...) to correct the fluctuations introduced in the automatic gain control signal by Macrovision to get a clean analog rip, and then dealing with generational loss when you go from DVD to VHS to DV (or whatever you're going to use for capture) is easier than open program, select titles, click "rip".

Hey, I told you what you needed to do, at least. You make the call on what procedure is easier.

It didn't do it on your old tv? The tv has nothing to do with the copy protection.

Some DVD players won't even play dvds correctly when hooked up to a vcr. Period.

There is really no way for you to get around the problem if you plan on using captured footage. But, I guess I don't even know why you would use a step where you copied to vcr to edit...Unless you are using the "Pause-Play" method of making a video.

If there is no way for you to use a computer in your editing process (whether it's too hard or expensive) then you could try looking for an old dvd copy (I have no idea what your source is really) or try a vhs tape of the movie.

If someone was using an actual time-base corrector, I don't think we'd need to tell them anything about editing.

I don't mind helping the guy, but I'm just stating a fact that not everything about editing is easy. If he thinks one of the easiest tasks to perform in ripping a dvd is "too complicated" he should stand back for a moment and consider what he is doing.

Now this guy's been a member as long as I have (give or take a few months) and has a plethora of videos cataloged (including one announced yesterday), none of them up for download, for reason I do not know. Many of them made before the guides as we know of them today were even concieved.

Simply stating this guy is no newbie to editing and the org, and he thinks ripping a dvd is too complicated? Even the most oldschool and inactive of editors would be scratching their heads right now on how this is too complicated for a seasoned editor.

anything worth doing is going to be hard. ive only had a computer for a few years, and ive come along way in the amv world. (compared to my early vids. read the guides and figure it out. enough said.

Either that or just buy a DVD player that is region and macrovision free. (They used to be very expensive to get modded, but some players out today can be disabled via the remote, such as my current Philips one)
But in any case, even still, that method to rip for AMVing is crude and not recomended. Especially if your going to turn around and capture it back off of that VHS tape via a cheap capture card. Its realy relatively easy to rip a DVD if you just have the patience to figure it out, and you get way WAY better results.
