I'm sorry, but shut up and stop splooging over MADs like they're the best thing ever to happen.
I knew either Paizuri, Otohiko, or dokool would tell me to shut up. Looks like it's dokool this time. Sorry I'm a Japan fanatic dude!

What are talking about? That's just like saying Cartoons and Anime are different styles. They are but which ones better "duh!!" Either way, if they actually used anime instead of pictures, it would still be hotter than most of the AMV's I've seen on this site.
I'll say this - videos with effects =/= (that's do not equal) great. Effects do not make great videos unless used properly, and nine times out of ten, they aren't. MADs are visual splurges, but they rarely have any kind of meaning to them. The lyrics rarely effect anything, they're just "make as many effects as possible in the hope that people won't notice that my video has no feeling to it". That's the gap, that's what makes the two communities trully different. AMVs, we tend to go more for the "Story and feeling" side of things, where as MADs tend to go for the "make a really impressive video with 90% effects". MADs, they don't tend to have much substance. There's nothing wrong with that on fun videos, but it makes it all seem rather pointless on anything else.
But, as the years have worn on, we americans have actually learned to use impressive effects and such, and the gap has started to close, as the Japanese are learning to put more feeling and story into their MADs.
Meh, my two cents.
