Yea, HD space IS cheap. Last I checked, it was less than $0.90 per gig Canadian (I think 200GB's are the sweet spot for price/size right now) - that's like .60 American! Surely you can scratch up a few dozen bucks for that :)

I should also mention that this was at the store near my school, and online you can likely get MUCH cheaper than that.

Granted, I for one don't trust online purchasing of hardware

Im assuming you mean you cant get an internal hard drive. ive been that route before and the solution is easy. just get you an external enclosure for your drive. you can get a single enclosure for e say 50 bucks or a double enclosure for say 100 bucks. i would chose a firewire interface because of the speed of fire wire and its ability to link from one device to another. american hds should run you about 50 cents a gig. just stay away fro 300gb seagates they suck royally, i speal from experience. if you stay at 250 or lower you should be good. and if you dont have a firewire slot you can just get one and put it in your card slot , im not sure how much they run now but i paid 80 bucks for one 4 years ago. well hope this helps you out

O_O I got my 160 GIG SATA Western Digital drive for roughly $110 on newegg. And the IDE version was $99. twice the space for only $20 more.

And if you got a samsung drive it would cost you about $84 for a IDE 160 gig. (best underated name around btw, Never had a samsung product fail on me. May not be the top performer all the time, but they are solid products)

I find some of the best prices AND customer service around is newegg.com, and zipzoomfly.com. Sometimes you may get a good price at monoarch-computers.com, a local warehouse pretty close to where I live, but they are an online merchant. I shop from them ocasionally since I can just go to the warehouse and pick it up.

Also Samsung 16X Duallayer DVDR drive is just $49 on newegg right now. Which is the drive I have now, works like a charm, but you'll have to upgrade the firmware to burn reliably at 16x on DVD-R media. all other modes work fine out of the box.

Sometimes they even have free fedex saver shipping.
