Some people download like crazy, and it get's annoying to have to give star reviews after 10 downloads. Can we increase this some?

Just give the damn stars

I think that might sort of defeat the purpose of the star system. It's supposed to be slightly annoying so that you don't forget to do it regularly.

Then again, suppose something like making it a 'reward' for donators might be a neat incentive...

Yeah it would.. I was just suggesting, and a lot of times I don't want to give a video a star review because I want to watch it again, then decide what to give it. Sometime I even redownload a video to give it an accurate star ranking. I don't know how that defeats the purpose, and I also don't want to rush giving a star review since I want to give a fair star review.

If the problem is having time to watch the vid repeatedly before settling on a score, we should limit people to one video - instead of raising the limit past 10. After all, if you can't download another vid till you give the first one a star, you have as long as you need to rewatch that video and nothing else to distract you from that video. You can watch it on loop for months if it takes that long to settle on a score. Downloading other vids just makes you more likely to forget that first vid, so the higher the limit, the harder it'll be for you to remember what score that first vid deserved.

I think the issue is that people don't want to give a star after watching a video. They want to download a handful and then give them all the same star to clear them away. With the 10 limit, they have to do that clearing often. If it were say...50, they'd only have to clear it every week instead of every day or two.

I figure, if it's that troublesome to choose a star, or to have to clear out the stars every few days, then they can always stick with direct and indirect videos. They might be limited on what vids they can get, but they'll never have to give a troublesome star score ever again. :P :!:

The sad thing is that the Star Scale system was put into place because people were complaining about not getting any sort of feedback on their videos (via opinions). So someone (and I forget who) proposed a simple star rating scale and now people can't even be bothered to rate with a single 1-5 number.

Makes me wonder what people's downloading habits are. I generally only download one file at a time from any one site and then check it out when it's done before trying to download something else from the same site.

That's what I usually do, download - watch - give star. If I'm downloading a handful of vids, I'll wait till I get them all (or 10 vids) then watch them in order, giving a star after I watch each one. The only time I'll hold off on giving a vid a star is if I'm going to review the vid - then I'll let it sit on the front page to remind me that it's still waiting for its feedback.

But I'm on dial-up and I don't watch more than 10 vids in a row (usually I only watch two or three before giving stars). I can't see getting more than 10 vids without watching a single one.

I tend to use the 10-stars limit as a time indicator, as I like to mull over videos a while after downloading them before giving a rating.

There's no good solution to the problem. Lowering the unrated limit will only encourage more random rank-distribution, and raising it will only allow even more slack. It should stay as it is.

I just want to get back to some, and at least I don't just go and just give everything 3's or 5's, It's just certain videos I have trouble figuring out what I want to give it, so I go back to it later while I'm downloading videos, and then just end up being forced to go back to a lot of them and give them star reviews just so I can go on with downloading more videos. It's only certain videos when I'm stumped on to what to give them. This is usually the case with videos that I'm not sure whether to give it a five or four on it. If I watch a video and decide it's mediocre, I usually just go to my downloaded videos page and give them a three. If I don't really like a video at all I generally give it a two. If a video has little to no synch and the quality makes me want to cry I generally just give it a one. I don't know what would be soo bad about raising it to 15 or 20... meh, oh well.. -_-

For some people it takes a month or more to download that many videos. Some people aren't rabid AMV-watchers, and might not even download more than 20-30 a year. The whole point is to urge people to grade videos so that the creators have feedback. 10 is perfectly reasonably. You just need to take the time to give each video a second or third watch.

I don't know what would soo bad about giving each video some thought before continuing your downloading spree.
